Bad forum experiences?

A little touchy a subject this is, but I'm sure we've all had them time and time again. In fact, we've even had the occasional low moment here as well.

Have you had any terrible experiences on other forums?

Well, I got banned by accident on a fair few sites, because they seemed to assume anyone without a typical 'human' name (or themed one) was a spammer. Think I got accidentally caught up in someone's IP ban too, since the forum said I was banned without actually having an account or ever having visited it in the past.

Other than that? Haven't had too many issues. Even sites with terrible moderation like GameFAQs have merely been lazy rather than actively malicious.

I tend to have a ton of bad experiences with forums that like to play favorites. Members usually ignore the new ones and if they don't like the style you type in, your personality, or even your likes, they outcast you.

my one experience with being the subject of Good Moderation is when a guy on Kondey Dong Universe kept riding my ass because I wrote the word "vidya" in one post but the Totally Impartial admin only stepped in when I and other members started making PTSD jokes. I was an huge dick, but then so was the other ennuch.

Not really. However, on my second forum ever I had an experience that I didn't quite appreciate... I had left for a while, as the community had gotten more and more toxic and we'd get troll accounts created every day. When I checked back in a month or so later I came across some posts by me that I had not written. I explained my shock, and then a moderator replied he was using my account, just for fun. d:confused: :/

I had no idea moderators could use our accounts, does that mean they know our passwords?

Any site owner can theoretically take over any account on their site simply by changing the password in the admin panel/database. Most don't (for obvious ethical reasons), but it's 100% possible.

Just something you'll have to be aware of on any site. Regardless of if that site is a small forum like this one or a social network on the scale of Facebook.

Technically, all sites let their owners view 'private' messages. You can get mods to do so for any forum or social platform, but you've also got the database itself.

Don't share anything via 'PMs' that you don't want the site owners or authorities to know about. This applies to anything, whether it's a forum, a social network (like Facebook or Twitter) or a chat service like Discord.

STAY OUT OF MY PM'S! xD

STAY OUT OF MY PM'S! xD

*Posts a run down of every dark secret you're sharing through PMs*

Along with every fetish you may have.

Hmm, makes me imagine what the reaction would be if a social network actually did that. Imagine Facebook sharing everyone's secrets with everyone else just to prove they can...

Facebook would become the ultimate stalking site, as if it weren't already.

Eat your heart out, dark web.

True. On forums like these, though, I feel comfortable sharing personal information through pm's. I trust the administrators to not look into any pm's unless provoked to. d:)

Occasionally, but it's usually my fault because I say or do something very stupid that I later end up regretting deeply.

For a while I used to be a regular on GameFAQ's Wii U board during the majority of 2014-2015, however my behavior used to be admittedly rather toxic as I used to get into very heated arguments with other regulars and in general reeked of aggressive fanboy-ism. During this time I was also going through a bit of reclusive shut-in phase so I was pretty much on there 24/7 making a complete idiot out of myself. In hindsight, I deeply regret my past actions.

Is anyone on GameFAQs normal? I mean, we were all pretty obnoxious on that site. It's a place that tends to draw in the most batshit insane people in the gaming world.

It's a site that causes me to lose faith in humanity each time I read a message board topic now.

Have you ever been in a typical youtube comments section? Because that's where I lost my faith in humanity. Seriously, on some channels you can't even scroll one inch down and you will see people calling each other cunts, faggots, niggers and even hitlers, solely because they can do so. So sad and disillusioning to see how low many people sink when they have the opportunity to insult people without consequences.
