Nintendo's "legal" problem

I think we all know what this topic is going to be about. For those who don't, here's some insight:

Just because I like a company doesn't mean I can give them a free pass, I have learned this way and I have become a more sensible individual, Needless to say Nintendo has been fucking up big time this generation. I can partly understand taking down remakes because if it's an enhanced version that's "better" than the original and for free, You may as well just play that. - But even with that said, Why the hell don't you embrace these creations and just hire these fans and promote their works to official status? AM2R would have been a perfect 3DS or Wii U title that would have probably earned you some respect back. This is what Sega is doing better with theirs fans, Look at Sonic Mania for instance, and Capcom did the same thing with Mega Man X Street Fighter, and even then - Metroid 2 on Virtual Console doesn't give much money to them per purchase. Fangames that aren't remakes in any way don't deserve a C&D whatsoever though, so Uranium's C&D is inexcusable. However pretending like Nintendo is the only one pulling this shit is stupid, I'm not saying they don't deserve the flack they are getting ; because they honestly do - But companies like Namco Bandai have done shit like this longer then they have, going as far as to take down a kid's Scratch Pac-Man program recreation. Where was the outcry then compared to the SM64 HD remake takedown? It's pretty much the same scenario.

Either way though Nintendo, You better learn because if you keep ignoring fans - It WILL be your downfall. The NX is practically your last chance. This is why people have more faith in fangames then there actual games such as Color Splash recently - But of course, because they are better they are going to take it down. Sometimes companies just need to learn the HARD way that if you keep saying "fuck you" to fans - They are going to leave you... At least Namco Bandai seems to have been learning after the failure of Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures so much they seem to be reverting back to the classic Pac-Man design and everything. And by the look of things they may just finally do something with IPs they've been sitting on their asses doing nothing with the huge outcry for Klonoa to return and whatnot.

(will write my thoughts on the actual subject later)

For reference: Nintendo did not C&D the makers of Pokemon Uranium (or AMR2 for that matter). Cease and desist means writing directly to the makers of something to tell them to cancel what they're doing or face legal action. Nintendo sent DMCAs to sites hosting download links of those games. The terms are not interchangeable, there's a big difference.

You can now return to your regularly-scheduled programming

nintendo just wants to fuck with people at this point, either way. they shouldnt even be working on a new console so they can force people to spend more money on quite possibly a bigger flop than the wii u, they should just back the wii u up with better games.

and about the DMCA claim, it shouldnt even shock anyone. i mean, i despise copyright abuse to the core, but nowdays, everyone is absolutely insane with their copyright claim to the point where you'll get sued over singing happy birthday.

I still don't quite understand how Wii U is any more confusing than PS4 or Xbox One. Would Wii 2 have been better?

Yeah that makes sense from a marketing perspective. I wonder if the overreliance on Wii remotes also factored in to the Wii U being viewed as too similar to the Wii.

Like Haedox said there are tons of mario fangames that nintendo ignored, But~ they take down a Metroid game, Just before they released "a metroid game" which they release only a few of, So maybe they want all the publicity on federation force that they can get. But with mario they always sell so those games don't matter to them.
I could be wrong though, It's just a theory.

Even with the many Mario fangames we still have gotten Super Mario Maker which in it's own way was trying to compensate for all the Mario fangames through out the year. Not sure what Nintendo sees in not wanting others to do something similar with what fans have done with Sonic games but it just seems like Nintendo has always had this paranoia of wanting to be safe when it comes to copyright and " illegal " games which is why the GC discs themselves were that oddly shape to stop any personnel from burning their discs.

yeah, there's a way to dump games from the wii to a computer now, including GC. in fact, i wouldn't be surprised to find if someone had found a way to burn GC games onto the computer before the wii even came out.

We've still gotten emulators for GC and Wii games anyway and even homebrew which is what you meant with the dumping of wii games. There's a ton of ways to bypass it now.

So at what point did Nintendo start going too far with this?

It's really hard to say, although I did not appreciate what they've done with the whole Metroid ii thing I wouldn't say that's the end all be all. Perhaps they should put out more games on the vc ones that do matter that aren't there yet, it just feels people are more upset over one game.

frankly, it isnt that the game is particularly memorable in itself, but its like if your parents celebrated your 18th birthday by kicking you out of the house because you're legal age. :p they have the right to do it, but they'd look bad for it.

the dreamcast had the same fate, except with a few more games. but yeah, its funny how that works out.

Well I read it actually did really well when it was released, and continued to do fine until the PS2 was released, which came with a DVD player, the very thing that put it ahead of the Gamecube and Xbox : p After that people stopped buying the Dreamcast and bought the PS2, dropping sales for DC pretty badly.

But before that it was doing fine : p
