  • Okay, this has to be the best TV Tropes 'explanation' for a commercial ever: "Fred's longstanding grudge against Barney, for taking reasonable quantities of Fruity Pebbles and/or Cocoa Pebbles cereal, which Fred is quite possessive of, in order to survive and thrive in the Stone Age, as part of a peacefully coexisting tribal community, has not been well documented on the show, where Fred's hard working family man personality is exemplified. Believe me, I've read stranger things on TV Tropes.
Hmm, do you know what I'm wondering about Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle? How they'll translate the Phantom song into Japanese. Cause that seems like it could be.. interesting to see the Japanese equivalent of the Nintendo Treehouse take on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWv4afWknfM

What if the rabbids are replaced on the Japanese version, I mean six months for a simple translation?
Honestly, I kind of miss dial up internet. Bad connections meant people had to write things down. Hate the obsession with video and audio now.
God, my writing skills have really deteriorated in the last few months or so. Probably because I need to focus on programming, writing and game design at the same time, and it's really damn hard to do so.

It also doesn't help that search engines like Google and social media sites like Twitter have basically made putting 'effort' into your writing a risky strategy. Everyone just rewards quantity over quality, and it seems success is linked more to how quickly you can get something out rather than how well you explain it.
Have now completed Odyssey 100%. The rewards are interesting, but a tad underwhelming.

Apparently the Toad Houses in SMB 3 are actually just a lie. You don't get a choice of 3 random items, it only chooses the item once you open a box. So yeah, your prize would have been identical regardless of the box chosen.

That kinda pisses me off, Atleast 3D Land is honest with its one present box. 3 chests however are just playing with my emotions.
Wow, Pokemon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon contain paleontological references in the Tyrantrum family Pokedex entries. Neat.

    Very mild spoilers, but:

Tyrantrum: Complete restoration is impossible, allowing room for theories that its entire body was once covered in a feather-like coat.

Seems to reference theories that T Rexes (and other dinosaurs) may have had feathers.

Finally, does anyone else sometimes wonder what it'd be like if Nintendo Power still existed and was reviewing/talking about modern Nintendo games? Okay, I'm from the UK so it'd be more 'Official Nintendo Magazine' for me, but still. Imagine their thoughts on Breath of the Wild, Pokemon Sun and Moon/their sequels, Mario Odyssey, etc. It'd be really interesting.

They will probably talk about how LA Nora being on the switch is a revolution for gaming itself. lol
Hmm, do you think the Chargin' Chuck enemies were meant to be in more kingdoms in Odyssey? I find it odd that they're mentioned on the map near the Metro Kingdom, yet only appear much later in the game.
    CM30
    CM30
Then again, I think they were removed from the map at one point, so yeah, I guess they were meant to show up in New Donk City somewhere.

One will also appear in a moon rock trial in the Ruined Kingdom.

Glydon was written near the Cascade Kingdom, but doesn't appear there at all.
On another note, the mini games in Odyssey are obnoxious. I'm sorry, but I miss Mario 64 and Sunshine where there were no mini games. Just pure platforming and exploration.

but you can easily cheese them. The Volleyball minigame is so broken with 2 player mode.

Yeah, just beat it with 2 player mode just now. Ridiculous how it goes from being a right pain to dead simple the minute you just use Cappy for the whole thing instead of Mario. Still, just a few more missions to go now.
I have to say, it'd be hilarious to go back in time and describe Super Mario Odyssey to someone from the Wii/Wii U era. I mean, the game must sound like a piece of ridiculous fan fiction if you haven't played it...

Seriously, imagine being a Nintendo fan on a forum being told the next Mario platformer has:

A new set of Koopaling like villains who are Rabbids
Mario's hat being a living creature called Cappy
The ability for Mario to throw his hat at enemies to capture and control them
Kingdoms loosely based on real world areas
Including a New York City area with realistic humans
    Pauline returns
There's a theme tune with vocals that's sung by Pauline
Bowser is trying to marry Peach
    Mario can use various costumes
And a kingdom in the game looks like something out of Dark Souls

People would think you were a delusional moron. Face it, if you read that on 4chan, you'd think the author was full of crap and that it could never happen.

But it did, and it's an amazing game. Funny world eh?

    Similarly...

Describing Team Rainbow Rocket in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon would sound ridiculous back when the game was first announced. Giovanni bringing back Team Rocket with help from Archie, Maxie, Cyrus, Ghetsis and Lysandre? Eh, that'd never happen.

Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces too. Both would sound insane to someone who hadn't heard of them.

As would Zelda Breath of the Wild to a GameCube era Zelda fan.

And as for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle? Yeah, even I was skeptical of that one. A Nintendo fan from a few generations ago would think you'd escaped from the funny farm. Especially if you tried to describe this song:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWv4afWknfM

    Again, how things have changed.

    Indeed it is.
On a positive note, you know one reason I really like Odyssey? Because it realises that 3D Mario games should work differently from 2D ones. Prior 3D Mario titles felt like they were trying to recreate New Super Mario Bros style gameplay in 3D and didn't really work as a result. Odyssey is Nintendo realising that this was the wrong route to go and embracing the open world experience that 3D games can do so well.

You can see the same thing in reverse too. Trying to put 3D Mario gameplay into 2D generally works about as badly as 2D Mario gameplay in 3D does. It can be done in some cases (like with the fan game Super Mario 63), but even then the new 'demake' is very different from the original in level design and really only works because of that.

It feels like developers don't realise that a game can be entirely made of a single gameplay style and work fine.
God, I miss the days before social media. People seem so much humble on forums, and more interested in helping people than personal fame.

Man you tell me... Even other creators suffer from that, since everyone seems of produce stuff, there's almost no public left! And this is also why forums aren't what they used to.

To be honest, I dislike most modern social media.
As someone's who just beat the Darker Side of the Moon in Odyssey, I think it's not so much 'super hard' as it is ridiculously long. 14 sections for a Grandmaster Galaxy/Perfect Run setup is stupid.

Honestly, it's really damn hard to discuss anything about Odyssey's endgame/postgame without spoilers. And no, Wario Forums doesn't have much in the way of spoiler rules, nor is it intended to.

This is probably the first time I've seen something outright said to be permissible on this site aside from like emulation stuff.
It's like they realised that dying after getting most of tthe coins was annoying, so greatly restricted their mission layout in the endgame. Interesting contrast to most Mario 64 hacks, like Star Road and Last Impact, which scatter the red coins everywhere and make you have to traverse the whole level without dying to get them all.
Seriously, note the pattern. Bob-omb Battlefield, Whomp's Fortress, Jolly Roger Bay, Cool Cool Mountain, Big Boo's Haunt and Shifting Sand Land have you find them across the whole level. But then every other level sticks them in the same small area.
