Mona's pointless redesign

Some characters in Game & Wario got a bit of a facelift (heh), but none of them stick out like a sore thumb as much as Mona does.

While most of the other characters remain untouched in design, I fail to see what the point of changing some of them was.

So this is what she looked like in past games:

And this is what she looks like in Game & Wario:

Why did they lose that unique eye style in the first one? How did Kokosac (the artist) decide to come to this after years of sticking with the original look?

She looks a lot younger in Game & Wario, doesn't she? Do you think they should bring back her original look, or go with the one in Game & Wario? The former at least makes her look like she can fit into a Mario spin-off easier.

But still, what was the point of this redesign? Is there anyone here who is actually upset about it? The worst part of it is that nobody seemed to notice/care, let alone cause a Wind Waker/Federation Force-style uproar about it, claiming that she got "ruined". Or at least very few people did. I'm not sure if most people actually care enough about her anymore for this to be an issue.

Is she ever going to get her original design back in another game? Or will we be stuck with this one? Because if it's this one from this point on, then yeah, fuck it. I'd rather she be forgotten.

The eye change isn't exactly a Mona-exclusive thing. Ko probably changed his style to that similar of the Rhythm Heaven games he illustrates for. No one really held a fit over it because....well, they all look pretty darn good, the general consensus is. Even if I hold a partial fondness to the older eye style.

wait, people not going "Sonic eyes aren't green!!"-ing is a problem?

very well then.

i've mentioned it before but i dont think it's a conscious change as much as it is the artist's style naturally changing over time. if you look at ko's art feed, most of his original characters don't even have a sclera lol

I sincerely thought the large black eyes was a play on the "Game & Watch" pun of the game's title. I sincerely hope they get changed back eventually.

Apparently the look is staying judging by Smash's Assist Trophies, Super Mario Maker's Ashley costume, and Ashley's 3DS theme, but thankfully they're making her eyes red again.

For me, it's not really the eyes that I mind, but the fact that she doesn't look very Mona at all anymore. I haven't played Game & Wario, but from the previous Wario games I've played, that design doesn't even fit Mona's character. She's supposed to be kinda wacky, more rockstar looking, and (I think?) a young adult, not an early teen.

Aside from the human characters having their eyes made black most of the characters don't really look all that different. Penny had her eyes simplified and it seems Mona,Kat, and Ana are the ones that really had their eyes redesigned. And the non-standard characters...

...Really don't look all that different. I guess Ko Tekeuchi wanted to simplify/unify the artstyle more.

They really don't look all that different, especially the non human characters. And Mona? Well, she looks a bit different, but that's mostly because she got a different job. Which in itself isn't that weird, since she gets a new job and costume in every game.

I guess a big thing is that Mona never really had a recognizable look since her thing was that she does something different in every game and her only distinguishing physical features were her face and her hair which would inevitably suffer from an artstyle change.

No, no, look again.

Her outfit changes with every game, but in Game & Wario, her face and proportions have changed entirely.

I hope that in the next WarioWare game (If there is any) both her outfit and physical appearence are changed back to those of the early WarioWare games.
The outfit from the first game did her character really suit well, and the last time she wore that outfit was in Smooth Moves for only 10 secs or so.
