More unused WL1:SML3 sprites

I was looking at the sprites of various WL1 bosses and I came across some unused ones that haven't been documented on the Cutting Room Floor yet.

There are these tongue and Wario sprites that were located in the Funfun sheet...

Looks to me like funfun used to have more tongue attacks than what he has now. The Wario may have been used for when he catches you with it.
Here's what it may have looked like:

Who knows why it went unused. Maybe they thought it was already too difficult.... (which it isn't).

If I come across any more unused sprites I'll post 'em here.

I wonder how Funfun would digest Wario? Of course Wario would just do the regular death animation, Its kinda weird only small Wario gets eaten. Though why do extra effort to scrap it. The tongue doesn't really fit, Remember his toungue was pointy.

I would assume that the battle was exactly they same but the tongue looked different. The might've been used for something else, i have no way of knowing but i just makes sense in my head.

Aslo WL:SMB3? Land, not Bros.

This isn't really unused but...

Something that always bothered me is how improperly Bobo's sprite was tiled.

His beak was almost always cut off on two sides!

Which is even more frustrating since almost all the tiles you would need to make it look really good are all in the tileset! They just had to be animated properly.

So I made a corrected version:

I also fixed a few inconsistent stray pixels here and there.

Found more unused tiles!

This time from the ghosty boss.
He has tiles for his arm moving, like he's throwing something. Most likely the coins of his purse.
Also, his purse actually opens, which it doesn't do in the game.

Here's my mockup.

Why was this not used though? Instead, the coins just sort of pop out of the closed purse. Did they just forget it?

There are also sprites of the purse without the ghost...

Maybe, since the ghost is flickering to create the transparent effect.... maybe the purse was supposed to be solid, so they would've layered it above the ghost's sprite without the flickering.

As a sprite artist, all of this makes me disappointed that so much was either rushed, forgotten, scrapped or just not implemented correctly.

Ghost duck? SXD

That's a pirate goom ghost. :STongue:

Also, I don't think the throwing animation was necessarily a different attack, I think it was just supposed to be an animation for the current attack. Just that instead of the coins popping out of his purse he throws them out himself.

Found something else. ^^

Wah-hah-hah-hah~

This was among the title screen sprites.
Wario was probably supposed to laugh at the duck after "conquering" the S.S. Tea Cup before turning to the player and giving a thumbs-up.

Note that it's difficult trying to piece together a bunch of tiles that are very similar to each other so it may not have supposed to look exactly like this but this way it made the most sense to me.

God that tongue attack seems so wrong.:wurgh:

It's awesome how it's still possible to find new unseen stuff in an old game.

Thanks for sharing.

Oh and also, I'm not sure about this... puff.

It was among the penguin sprites but I don't remember seeing it anywhere in the game.

Nope, definitely doesn't seem to appear in the actual battle.

I always got that creature confused.

That sprite would make a good emoji if you scale it down a bit.
