Puyo Puyo

I should say that the Japanese original is more ambiguous, but still implies the same thing, either way, despite my love for Arle x Sig I will admit that it is pretty cute even more so in the more blatant localized version and heck, while I'm not as big on Amitie x Sig as I used to be I still find quite a lot of appeal in it. Besides, being a Arle x Sig fan is nothing but suffering anyway.

Yeah, I'll be honest. I was admittedly a little wary to mention it around you. I know you don't hate Amitie x Sig, and I didn't want to annoy you by bringing it up, but I just felt like I HAD to mention it. Partially because if I remember correctly, PPT is the first time(?) that Amitie x Sig has been blatantly (or as close as "blatantly" gets) hinted to be a thing in-universe. Well, at the most, Amitie being implied to have a thing for Sig. That being said, I MAY have internally "squeed" a bit at Amitie's "sort-of confession".

Also, maybe it's just me, but I find something oddly precious about Sig calling her just Ami as a nickname, I hope that get's kept for potential future localizations.

I know, right? I feel the same way. There's something about it that just seems...REALLY sweet. I also hope it gets kept around in the future. Speaking of which, has anyone noticed that in the the 'A' trio ends up facing the 'S' trio, of which are all implied love interests? (Arle x Schezo/Amitie x Sig/Ringo x Maguro)...

That and even trying to write original dialogue for them is a headache and a half, trust me I know from experience, hope you enjoy horrible puns ala' ''grave mistake'' or ''ghost of a chance''!

Ay-yi-yi.....

Either that or just bring Strange Klug back in a meaningful way, part of that is my bias talking since he is my favorite Puyo villain and 4th favorite character next to Sig, Schezo and Arle, but I do think that he has a lot going for him that has never been truly capitalized on.

Yeah. S.K. really should return. After seeing playthroughs of Fever 2, I can safely say that S.K. has more than enough potential to be a thing again for the series. Heck, the Fever-era doesn't even have a recurring antagonist like the Madou-era (Satan) and PP7 (Ecolo).

I think I may have seen that one before, not bad variation of an existing artwork, but I think this original piece is cooler:

Hmm...comparing them side by side...

Personally, I'm loving this art of her Dominatrix look, but I guess the second one really does seem to emphasize Succubus' "sultry side", doesn't it? Honestly, looking at it ow, I'm even more bothered that Succubus' Compile-era look has been (mostly) removed. Still, I should mention that if the 5th Drama CD is any indication, the Dominatrix look hasn't been COMPLETELY dropped by SEGA. BTW, two things.

1) I always had the notion that Succubus is the Incubus' older twin sister.

2) Remember our headcanons on Sig and Maguro? I feel like there'd be something interesting done with Succubus. I don't know what it is, but SOMETHING interesting would be done between them and her.

Schezo : ''I want your...power!''
Sig : ''No thanks.'' *just leaves*

Schezo : ''I would never rub you the wrong way!''
Sig : ''What?'' ''Please...just don't.''

Schezo : ''Now give me your hand!''
Sig : ''Oh boy.'' Yeah, I don't know about that.'' ''I'd rather not.''

Can I just say that I utterly adore how much the writing and voice acting in the localization make the already blunt Sig sound like a outright mildly snarky smart-ass? Because I do.

You're not the only one. Heck, that's what I practically CHERISH about PPT's official English translation. Sig isn't the only one SEGA of America did justice.

Ringo's overall wit feels more "natural" in English now.

Amitie herself seems to "translate better" in the West than in Fever's English version (though I hope they bring back "Get really real!!" and "Wicked!!").

Satan's antics are even MORE hilarious (ESPECIALLY a cutscene you'll find in Chapter 10, with Ex witnessing it firsthand. It has to be seen to be believed, that's for sure)

The cutscene with Schezo and Rulue feels like more justice was done for it in the English version of PPT

Risukuma and Maguro feel more as members of the bigger story than they did in Japanese, and much, MUCH more.

The one thing I wish was done was to give Arle (as much as I LOVE her) just a bit more of a distinction from Amitie and Ringo. She's still more than excellent in the English version, but if they gave her the characterization she had in Minna, that would have fully sold her on me.

Oh really? Do I give off the impression that I'd be annoyed or is it because of Arle x Sig? Either way, rest assured I'm not annoyed in the slightest.

Though if we are talking about memorable scenes relating to Sig this one would be my standout example:

Well, I wouldn't say you give off the impression of being annoyed. Actually I'd say it was more because of Arle x Sig, if anything else.

Wow, this art is really cool! I have to admit that Black Sig and Strange Sig art both look amazing!

I think I know what you mean, with you talking about a major hint for a pairing that's major ''competition'' for my OTP, but trust me I don't mind, besides it's not like I don't still have a certain liking for Amitie x Sig, even if I always preffered to see him with Arle.

And to be honest, even if I didn't like Amsig (shortning, becuase it's easier) at all anymore I'd find it hard to be annoyed, since being a Arlsig fan has been almost exclusivly disappointing after 15th as is, the stage show and Chronicle were glimmers of hope, but every other game beforehand had SOME opportunity for at least basic interaction that got wasted.

If nothing else I at least get some pleasent surprises from meeting fellow fans and fanworks, which has become surprisingly frequent as of late, with me gaining a Arlsig fan as a follower earlier this week, this confession which I swear is not from me, getting posted on the confession blog yesterday (the third Arlsig confession there and only one is from me) and me finding an artist who has made lots of lovely doodles of the pairing.

So despite everything, at least I'm not alone as a fan and assurment of that is quite steady.

It actually implies two very interesting things:

1) The demon can communicate with at least Klug, in some fashion, while never denied beforehand this is the first time we hear about this.

2)It seems that Klug has no idea that his book houses a demon, he never DID react to it or bring mention to it and it may explain why he still keeps the thing around after what happened in Fever 2.

I would love to see Strange Sig become a thing at some point, maybe even as not just an alt, but rather a part of the story, sort of like a Dark Arle that isn't utterly wasted.

Oh, OK. Like I said, that's why I was a bit wary to bring it up. I just wanted to make sure you were't bothered by the idea of the biggest competition to Arle x Sig (Not trying to brag, or anything of the sort) being blatantly hinted at to be canon in-game, that's all.

Oh, my gosh! Looking at it now, I would LOVE to see Fever 2's (totally WASTED) plot FINALLY come full-circle with the demon SUCCESSFULLY gaining control of Sig's body. Honestly, I can only pray that SEGA doesn't screw up the story...

Out of curiosity, what would YOU have done with Dark Arle? Not trying to call you out or anything, but since you claimed that Dark Arle was utterly wasted in PP7, I'm just wondering is all.

It does look like something that would suit her.

Yeah, considering Draco's tomboyish personality, I just feel like it's something that would suit her to wear for casual moments.

BTW, I have some things I'd like to ask everyone here.

1) What would you say to the idea of (and bear with me here) a Puyo Puyo fighting game?

2) Anyone wish this song was kept for Puyo Puyo games today? It feels like it would have been perfect as a remix in Chronicles.

The song below:

As a fan of SigAmi, I like seeing the hints, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't sympathize with you, Warelander. People like seeing hints of their ship being possibly canon, and there's not too much there.

Here's how I feel about Arle x Sig; I could totally see that ship working out just fine. I mean, they are good friends, after all, and they do seem to get along, so what the hey.

And I see you're showing off fanart in this thread. Those Strange Sig pieces are real nice. Would be nice to see it explored in a future game...hard to say, but we'll see.

As for a Puyo Puyo fighting game? I could see it working. Actually, I imagine some characters working as fighting game characters.

I could see Arle kinda working. Draco. Rulue. Maybe even Witch. I'm lousy at fighting games, but really, more I think about it, the more I think there's actually tons of potential there.

I hate being no good at delving into nitty-gritty details unless I'm angry or in the mood to ramble about nothing...which I'm not right now. But I can see lots of characters working out the more I look at it. Of course, I suck at fighting games, but it hasn't stopped me from enjoying them.

EDIT: My tablet decided it wanted to make my decisions for me, resulting in me having to finish this post in editing.

I appreciate the sympathies and yah know, it's not like I'm bitter about it or anything, it's disappointing when something you like get's next to no attention in canon, to the point where some will look at it as an odd ship choice, but as I mentioned I at least get pleasently surprised from other places that show me that I don't have to feel like a freak for liking it, so I'm chill either way.

Klug always struck me as the kinda guy who's brilliant in some ways, but utterly lacks common sense in others.

Giving her a more active on screen presence, because in the actual game almost everything she does is done off screen, would have been interesting to actually see her maipulate Klug be giving him wrong information, rather then just having it told. In fact interaction with the whole cast would have been a good thing, especially characters relevant to her like Rulue, Draco, Schezo and Sig, to drive home the point that this isn't the same Arle, by acting very off or even attacking them in cold blood, I know that Puyo doesn't really play for drama like that, but it would have helped since 7 clearly tries to be a bit more serious, but the way it does it is just clumsy.

Really, you could just rewrite some of the dialogue and just have Ecolo running around doing these things (nobody knows him by that point, so he would have an easy time), with how meaningless Arle's involvement in all of this feels, the only thing they really do anything with is Satan's part, but that's too little too late.

As for the fighting game idea, I could see that working, some characters like Raffine, Rulue, Tarutaru or Draco who rely on physical combat could easily translate into that enviroment, but I could see most characters working. With the way the spells are usually shown a lot of them would likely rely mostly on projectile attacks with few physical options, which is unorthodox, but hardly unworkable.

Actually, when you describe him now, that actually seems to fit Klug's personality to a T(ee. Sorry, lame pun).

Giving her a more active on screen presence, because in the actual game almost everything she does is done off screen, would have been interesting to actually see her manipulate Klug by giving him the wrong information, rather than just having it be told. In fact, interaction with the whole cast would have been a good thing, especially characters relevant to her like Rulue, Draco, Schezo and Suketoudara, to drive home the point that this isn't the same Arle, by acting very off or even attacking them in cold blood, I know that Puyo doesn't really play for drama like that, but it would have helped since 7 clearly tries to be a bit more serious, but the way it does it is just clumsy.

Oh, man. I would have LOVE to see everything you described. Well, I guess I could do without the "cold blood" part. Otherwise, this feels like everything Dark Arle SHOULD have been. I know she wasn't the main character, but SEGA REALLY should have done better to re-introduce the idea of Arle being a major player in the series. Maybe every character Ringo encounters (with the exceptions of Risukuma and Maguro) would have a post-battle cutscene play after said battle detailing their prior meeting with (Dark) Arle and her explaining to them that a "teenage girl with red hair and green Puyo hair clip" would be around, and they should battle her. It really does feel like PP7 was essentially SEGA's answer to Puyo Puyo~n.

2) There are many songs from Madou that I would have loved to be kept around, especially from ARS.

Same here!

Wow, these are pretty good ideas, guys! Personally, I can see a Puyo fighting game working in the style of SEGA's Fighting Vipers with Arle, Rulue, Schezo, Satan, Suketoudara, Draco, Witch, Lagnus, Amitie, Raffine, Sig, Klug, Liddelle, Tarutaru, Lemres, Feli, Ms. Accord, Ringo, Risukuma, Maguro, Ecolo, and Ally as playable characters.

It does take a lot of cues from Yon, which makes it kinda poetic that it's the most divisive SEGA Puyo game, just like how Yon was for the Compile entries.

Also, Suketoudara is one of the few who actually do meet Dark Arle in the game, unlike the ones I listed, so replacing Sig with him (for whatever reason) when quoting me doesn't really make sense in the context of what I was saying.

Now that you mention Maguro I'd really love to see someone who is good at that kind of stuff come up with a Kendama based moveset, I don't recall ever seeing something like that before.

Actually, PP7 seems to have a LOT in common with Yo~n than you might think. Here's a list I....COMPILED! (I am SO sorry for the lame pun. So, so sorry.)

- Both of them serve as the 4th game in their respective continuities. (Yo~n is the 4th game of Compile's run, whereas PP7 is the 4th game of SEGA's run)
- Both have, as you said, a VERY divisive gameplay gimmick as its selling point
- Both are currently the last game (as of now) in their respective main continuities (Yo~n was followed by BOX and Minna which are considered separate games in their own right, and 7 was followed by 20th, PPT, AND Chronicles)
- A major player in the series gets possessed by the TRUE main antagonist (Satan in Yo~n, and Arle in PP7)
- Both games HAD a 'TRUE' main antagonist in the first place (Doppelganger Arle for Yo~n and Ecolo for PP7)
- Both games also have an evil persona of Arle's serving as an antagonist of some sort. (Doppel. Arle in Yo~n and Dark Arle in PP7)

Also, Suketoudara is one of the few who actually do meet Dark Arle in the game, unlike the ones I listed, so replacing Sig with him (for whatever reason) when quoting me doesn't really make sense in the context of what I was saying.

Whoops. Sorry about that. I was going by the Compile cast that Dark Arle tricked Klug into telling Ringo to go fight. Just...forget I even did that. It was a long day yesterday. I had a headache like you wouldn't believe. (And I think I've been feeling a few aftereffects today.)

Sorry to hear about the headache, but to be honest, I still find it odd that you were so intent to get rid of Sig in that listing of all the things I said, because that's what it honestly still looks like to me. I mean you don't have to agree with me, I don't mind if you don't, but I won't dwell more on this.

I figured you might appreciate me showing you this cute lil' comic, considering the scene it's meant to be a continuation of.

I admit, Puyo Puyo~n is one reason I even have a Japanese PS2. I really should get the PS2 versions of Fever 2, 15th and 20th Anniversary (though I hear 7 isn't on the PS2; good thing I got my Wii modded).

I think it's only appropriate that I get a Puyo Puyo game for my Japanese PS2; the PS2 line has given me a lot of good memories.

But back on the subject, I do admit to enjoyingthe DS version of Puyo Puyo 7, warts and all. I even consider it one of my faves. But I can see how the story could have been better. Oh sure, it could have been a hell of a lot worse, but they could have done better too.

Now, my mind did go into an unrelated subject; should they do some sort of remaster of Puyo Pop Fever, should PuyoTet game do well, would you want a new English dub for the game? I don't know why I thought of this, but I did.

Personally, I wouldn't mind. It'd be nice to see a new localization to fix old problems, and a new dub to go with it. Besides, I think

That said, the old dub should still be included as an option, at least; even if the newer dub winds up being better, I think some might wanna compare the two for fun. I just think it'd be easier if they didn't have to switch between two consoles.

On the topic of the comic, I saw it, and it is one of the cutest comics I've seen. It's simple, but amazing. Maca always does such good art. She's pretty cool to talk to, as well. I just simply like Maca as both an artist and as a person.

That said, the old dub should still be included as an option, at least; even if the newer dub winds up being better, I think some might wanna compare the two for fun. I just think it'd be easier if they didn't have to switch between two consoles.

Actually, I'd like a localized remaster of ALL 7 prior main series games. The original Puyo game to Puyo 7. Hey, if Fire Emblem is doing it...

BTW, everyone. I have a picture I'd like to show off.

I found it on Twitter. Here's the link: https://twitter.com/ichigogoooooooo/status/859202961288966144

For those who don't get it, it's essentially "What would Risukuma and (SEGA-era) Witch look in in the style of Compile's Pocket Puyo games? Personally, I think they look pretty nice. warelander, I was going to suggest that you post it in your Tumblr. Obviously, you don't HAVE to. I'm only suggesting.

Really? Sorry. I guess I just wasn't thinking about it at the time, and thanks to the headache thing, I didn't read the ENTIRE post from the get-go that day. Not trying to insult you or anything of the sort. Yeah, you know what? You're right. Let's just forget about it.

Awww....that's so adorable! Thank you!

Um...just curious, you do know Puyo Puyo~n is only available for Dreamcast, PS1, N64, right? Just wanted to bring it up.

I can't help but feel like it was starting with that game that the majority of Puyo Puyo games' stories seems a bit...lacking these days.

Yes, but the PS2 can play PS1 games. Figured a Japanese PS2 was the best way to go; two worlds for the price of one, after all, plus, I gotta get around to snagging some PS2 Puyo Puyo games as well. And a few other Japan-only games I've been wanting to play for years.

And that art is actually really nice.

I just picked up Puyo Puyo Tetris on my Switch recently and I also patched myself together a 3ds copy as well!
I'm in love with these characters already! Sig is best boy, hands down. He has that whole "I guess I'll die" thing going for him so he's super relatable!

...I'm not very good at Puyo Puyo Tetris.

If it makes you feel better, I'm still not super amazing at it myself. But you know, if I'm gonna suck at a game, I at least like to be having fun with it.

I've gotten a little better at Puyo and Tetris, but I still think of myself as a bit of a novice. But admittedly, a love for the characters and a little bit of insanity did help a little. You get better as it goes on, I'm sure.

But I'm glad you're having fun, at least. Welcome to the world of Puyo Puyo, my friend!

I have been playing non-reskin Puyo since 2006 and yet I'm no chaining savant either, so I totally feel yah.

As for the remaster idea, I'd welcome it, as long as it meant that the games got a visual overhaul to make the presentation especially for the SEGA games, less limited.

I would also welcome a new dub for Fever and honestly wouldn't care whether the old one was included as an alternative or not, since I hold little attachment to it.
