By the way, interesting bit of news regarding Quest: sometime this month Amitie, Sig, Raffine, Klug and Lidelle will become the first characters to recieve a level 7, complete with new art:
updata_date0726.png

here's what we have seen of Level 7 Amitie so far.

While I don't play Quest I do always enjoy the art it brings along, it looks nice and the resources make for great icon material:
tumblr_ookt9jGriu1vfepqyo1_400.png

Like my current Shigaru blog icon, while it's reused PPT art it is very easy to use, to the point where this icon just kind of happened, while I was just toying around with the PPT Sig art, when that was first ripped.

A part of me would actually make a new banner for my main blog that way as well, I just need to take the time to sit down and tinker a bit.

Huh, maybe I should try this. I have been trying to do somewhat of a Puyo Puyo x Dragon Ball Z tribute thing. However, the ONLY problem I have is... well, that thing that I want to do? I need some Lagnus art, and he wasn't in PPT whatsoever...I guess I could re-use his Powerful Lagnus art from Quest.

Ah cool, I only heard about the Magic School series getting Level 7s, but it makes far more sense that there's be more then just 5.

Yeah, at least Quest can give you something to work with, especially with surprisingly well off he is in that game.

Yeah. Honestly, I also thought that it might be a bit weird that Primp Magic Academy's students (bar Tarutaru?) would get 7* upgrades before everyone else. The fact that it's all 3 ARS trios, as well as the majority of 20th's cast makes WAY more sense to me.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try using Quest art, and see how it goes.

If you guys didn't know about it here's a good site that works for upscaling picture which works quite well with Puyo sprites.

Wow, this might come in handy for future projects! Thanks!

BTW, guys. I've got a question for you all. I came across this Tumblr post last night.

http://puyoconfessions.tumblr.com/post/163720212132/if-they-cant-or-dont-ever-bother-translating-the

Considering that IDW currently holds the Sonic comic license and PPT's worldwide localization appears to have been released to success, what would you say now to a Puyo/Madou comic series?

I'd certainly like it, especially if it ends up appealing to me more then the Light Novels do, but I don't see the chances of it happening as any higher then they were before.

I have to agree. Personally, I think the cast REALLY lends itself to a comic series so much more better than anyone would think. Honestly, I can see the hypothetical comic having WAY more substance than the Light Novels. I mean, the whole thing seems like a good idea to help introduce the West to the characters, gags, and backgrounds. Also, where I was a bit iffy on the OCs of the Archie Sonic comics, I'd be more than OK with it in terms of a Puyo comic series. Especially considering how the Madou Light Novels seemed to have OCs out the wazoo. One of whom even became a game character later on (Lagnus).

BTW, look at what I found:

I don't see any need for OCs when you already have such gigantic cast available, if anything a comic series taking full advantage of SEGA's library of Puyo charas (as opposed to just the usual 24 mainstays) would be a huge selling point for me.

Yeah, I guess you do have a point there. A Puyo comic series combing the likes of Compile and SEGA's library of characters as opposed to using ONLY 20th Anniversary's cast (as you mentioned earlier), it would certainly be a selling point for me as well.

Still, I wonder how the comic would be handled. A slice-of-life series in the vein of 20th Anniversary? A (dark) serial on-going story like the Madou Light Novels? Maybe....a mix of both?? (Hopefully, it's a mix of both!)

BTW, two things:

1) I came across THIS Puyo/Madou confession:

http://puyoconfessions.tumblr.com/p...ke-to-speculate-what-kind-of-name-witch-would

And now, I headcanon Witch to take the name Brittney after her training's over.

2) Also, I MADE this headcanon:

http://puyoconfessions.tumblr.com/post/163796988032/this-is-how-old-i-believe-everyone-who-has-not

Just wanted your thoughts on it, really.

Actually Sig's Secret came rather close to how I'd like such a series to be, putting a lot of spotlight on someone other then the 5 usual suspects and doing something interesting with an established element (Sig's demon nature), if it wasn't for the less then impressive climax and the horrible way Ringo and especially Arle were handled, then I'd actually like it.
I'm sure that works, but Lemres definitely strikes me as older then 17 and I always put Sig and Ocean Prince at 16 and 12 years old respectively, since I feel like that's just the right gap between thir ages and anything below 11 years feels too young for Salde and 16 always felt right to me when it comes to Sig, but then again, that's just how I look at it.

a) I'd like to say that I agree with you on the Puyo comic series doing what Sig's Secret did (but actually RIGHT). Putting spotlight on a certain character than the usual, and expanding on said element. Heck, I would REALLY love if they adapted the stories of the Light Novels and Drama CDs, along with their own original stories.

b) Out of curiosity, who are the usual 5 you're talking about? Just curious.

Personally, Lemres always struck me as being as old as someone like Lagnus, thus 17 yrs. old. As for Sig, he (alongside Amitie and Tarutaru) always struck me as younger than Arle and Draco. As for Ocean Prince/Prince Salde...11 always seem to be the number for me, I guess.

Arle, Amitie, Ringo, Satan and Ecolo.

Thing is it's been suggested (especially in 15th) that Lemres and Ms. Accord have known each other for quite a while, so I always saw him as him being at least in his mid 20s. Him being so accomplished to the point of being essentially a celebrity that magazines write about also makes me think that he's been at it for a while.

Sig is harder for me to judge, the only thing that one can really use as a base is his physical appearence and outside of Chronicle (where practically everyone is the same size) he's usually shown to be a tad taller then Arle, which doesn't need to mean anything, but it's part of why 16 always made sense to me, given that we have nothing else concrete to form speculations off of, but that's really just how I look at it.

Ah, OK. I had the feeling that's who you were talking about, but I just wanted to be sure.

Speaking of which, I always had the headcanon that Lemres was simply a prodigy at a VERY young age, thus leading to him getting little write-ups in magazines and whatnot. I guess it sort of helps that he's confirmed to be descended from nobility according to the Drama CDs and Puyo Quest, which possibly added to his fame.

In terms of him knowing Ms. Accord, I had the headcanon that he was student of hers at SOME point in the younger years of his life, and that they just happened to have a close student-teacher relationship.

As for Sig, I just don't know what it is. Something about him and the students of Primp Magic Academy (as well as Ringo and Maguro for that matter) always struck me with the notion that (at the very least) they're all 1-2 years younger than Arle. I've always had the headcanon that Sig is just somewhat tall for his age.

BTW, on the subject of a Puyo/Madou comic series, what would you say to said comic periodically re-visiting (and possibly expanding on) the backstories of each character in the series?

Especially the Madou-era cast in terms of Arle, Rulue and Schezo's childhoods, with re-tellings of their stories in MM: ARS, as well as Satan's becoming the ruler of Puyo Hell.

Maybe even go into detail on Witch's extended family, and Draco's clan. Just to name a couple of things.

To each their own, I just like to go for the most simple answers.

I'd much rather have the Fever cast take center stage in such a concept, given that the backstories of Primp and it's inhabitants are more established and pretty much asking for explorations, besides the Fever characters (aside from Amitie) at large are the ones that usually get screwed over the most, I'd rather have them regain the spotlight for once.

Either way I'm sceptical on whether or not SEGA would even allow such a thing, SEGA once they noticed the path that Ken Penders lead Archie Sonic towards has since then always insisted on a set of rules on what writers of the comic could and couldn't do. I'm sure such a thing would apply to a Puyo Comic as well and exploring the charcters' pasts may or may not be a big no-no.

On a different note, here's our first look at some of the Level 7 art :

Personally, I'd prefer a more "encompassing" solution of going into EVERYONE'S (Madou-era, Fever-era, and PP7 casts) histories from time to time. I mean, obviously the Fever-era exclusive elements do NEED to be fleshed out after having so much buildup and then suddenly being dropped post-Fever 2. That aside, for the Western audience who pretty much missed out on Compile's era of Puyo games, this feels like a good way to get everyone up to speed on who's who from Arle's dimension. Finally, maybe Ringo's dimension can be more detailed as to what's different in her world compared to real life. PP7 seems to show that trains are used to reach various continents, and said continents are MUCH closer to each other than in real life.

With that said, I would hope SEGA would let the writers go into detail about the Puyo characters' pasts. Compared to Sonic (who is known worldwide at this point), Puyo Puyo would actually NEED the world-building, character development and histories to establish itself to a Western audience.

Wow! This is looking pretty good so far! Arle's 7* art looks really cute! BTW, I don't suppose the art above of Celebration Arle, Schezo, Swordfighter Amitie, Sig, and Feli are official art of their 7* upgrades, are they?

I'm just talking from a personal perspective, speaking as someone who started with the Fever games and 15th it's not hard to guess what part of the franchise I'm especially invested in and attached towards, not that I don't love the Pre-Fever side of things as well, but I just want to see the Fever era get some proper attention again.

With that said I would be very interested in a story that sheds light on Schezo's life between MM: ARS and MM2, showing just what happened with him to make him the monster he is in that game, plus it even plays into my desire for stories where Schezo can actually just be his own character and not be reduced to just being Arle's rival/punching bag all the time.

Sure thing. I do really like the art, makes me wonder who else might get the Level 7 treatment in the future.

Oh, yeah. I totally understand where you're coming from. Heck, as I said in an earlier post, I'm not exactly a fan of how SEGA flaked out on developing Primp's lore post-Fever 2. I just hope that the Madou-era's lore would still have a close eye kept on it to keep us here in the West up to speed on the lives of Arle and the Madou-era cast, before they started coming to Primp.

Something I feel that a comic would great justice towards granted they don't change up/retcon his history or something. Also, with a comic...well, like you said, maybe Schezo wouldn't be reduced to Arle's punching bag.

And that's fine, just a typical cases where personal desires just differ a bit.
