Ripping WL3 sprites (lots of unused sprites found)

Whhhhhheeeeeelp.... Now I just gotta... do all the things... ugh... :Sdurr:

Tilesets.png

So tilesets next then? Looking good, though yeesh that'll take a while to organise. So many tilesets in this game...

Well, at least a lot of them are almost the same and I'll just need to cut out the changed bits. It's just a pain having to remove all the identical tiles.

Looks pretty good! Seems like it could be useful for fan games, ROM hacks and Super Mario Bros X levels at some point, if someone out there was willing to convert them to those formats.

@CM30 did you upload those sprites to the cutting room floor? If so, you messed up the text for the spark enemy. :STongue:

These...

...always had a face.
The unusual part is not that they have a face but that that their eyes are moving left to right, which likely would've been used when they move horizontally. In the game they always have the same animation where their eyes move up and down, no matter where they go.

I just realized that some of the sprites I wanted to repost were left out cuz I went over the 10 images per post limit.
Here they are again:

The ones that have unused eye sprites are the lamp sparks:

And THIS is the sprite where Vampire Wario shields himself, not the other one. The other one is likely for when he hits light or garlic and turns back to normal.

Also, you mentioned that the unused Wario sprite was similar to " frames used when he messes up in the golf game", but that was the wrong one.

THIS was the frame that's similar to the miss frame, but I think it's more appropriate to say that it's similar to the sprite used when Wario starts rolling, since it was found among the rolling sprites, not the golfing mishap sprites. I mean it's more likely that sprite in the miss animation was made for rolling first and golf second.

By the way, does anyone else find that this sprite...

bad rock.png

...looks a bit crappy?
It looks to me like a placeholder that they never bothered to, well, replace.
The shading is kinda weird too...

Is it a placeholder? This looks like the rock in The Pool of Rain where you use a beanstalk seed to push the rock up to get access to the red key.

EDIT: Oh, I see what you mean. This rock is wider and has different coloring/shading.

No no no, It's not a placeholder, it IS the sprite that's used in the game, I meant it LOOKS like it could've been a placeholder.
Like someone quickly scribbled it down with the intention of changing it later but then they never did.

I don't know what their actual intent was. It just looked cheap to me.

By the way, this one might be unused too.

Probably for when you bump into him or maybe defeat them but it doesn't actually show up as far as I can tell.

Do you know any other Wario frames that are missing from the other sheet besides these?
Wario Missing Sprites.png

Also, @CM30 these were unused too.

I also found this air puff in the puffy Wario sprites, obviously it would've come out of Wario's mouth when he deflates.

And the climbing sprite was made with a tile that I couldn't find a use for. Usually he has his hands in a way that looks like he's holding on to thesides of the ladder but maybe since that wouldn't make sense on climbing fences this could've been an alternative sprite.
In the actual game the sprite is always the same.

I also found these unused sprites in pesce's data:

This makes it obvious that in the beta the flies would've carried more than just cheese and you were supposed to only feed the fish the right food. Maybe the pepper would've made him mad and maybe the garlic would've made him spit out previously eaten cheese?
Or the garlic could've done something to Wario. Not sure what.

The turning sprite for the fly was unused since it never turns around but I don't get why they didn't use the K.O. sprite though.
