This reaction perfectly sums up my feelings towards Nintendo and their treatment towards the Wario series right now. Why?

If Nintendo ever makes another Wario game again. They should have side missions for Ashley and Red, that would be awesome!

The product in question would need to be WarioWare or something suitable for those characters. A good designer shouldn't be biased and just throw characters they like into established series (like Wario Land). That's why Smash Bros is such a blow to Wario's oldest fans. There's no respect for the character's identity and heritage.

That would be pretty awesome, imagine playing Wario Land and unlocking Ashley type mini-games, to go on missions, play mini-games, etc. Just little side things from Wario Land.

Wario Land + Ashley : Switch
Switch between Wario and Ashley

Nintendo, take notes!

I thought you retired from being provocative, Kyon. Or do you truly believe Wario Land fans want Ashley shamelessly shoehorned into the 23+ year old series? It wouldn't be respectful treatment of either party. I know that as a Wario Land fan, and you should know that as an Ashley fan.

You don't speak for all fans, Angler.

There are those who are fans of both and would love to see the Ware crew somehow incorporated in Land. Much like how people would like to see Waluigi in games outside the sports/parties. Point is that if it is to be done, it needs to be done well. What Kyon actually suggested was mini-games- something the Ware cast already does, just placed in a Land game(as a bonus). That's actually a great idea, even if I don't agree that Ashley should be the only one in that case(though I do think it shouldn't be all the Ware cast, limit it to say, Mona, 9-volt, Jimmy and Ashley so you don't need to bother with assets for a massive amount of characters and take away from the focus on making the platforming great).

That being said, Kyon then went :

Wario Land + Ashley : Switch

No, just no. Even if she was included as a secondary playable character(and not just in minigames but in the actual platforming) she should not get included in the title. Just call it Warioland Switch. Heck, if it happened, and you wanted to show she was the second character, even Wario Land SWitch would be better.

I have argued at length about this in other threads. Brawl Wario is incredibly honest to the character's identity and heritage. His actual, JAPANESE one, not the american take on him. The only real problem with him is removing his shoulder charge in Smash 4- that was pretty unforgiveable. Brawl Wario is a better representation of the character than I've ever seen a fan come up with, and leagues ahead of Project M.

Brawl Wario represented Land, World, Ware, and the characters portrayal(in Japan). PM is american Wario with no Ware at all- he's fun to play, but a much worse blow against fans of all the Wario series.

If you think Brawl Wario is a "blow to his oldest fans", you take an America-centric view, and a rather reductive view of Wario in general.

I don't want to resurrect this tired old Japanese/Western debate. I was mainly putting Kyon in his place. He's a mischievious little imp who loves to test our patience and burrow under our skin with his fanatical behaviour toward Ashley. I only hope he'll look back on it one day as a mature adult and see the folly it all is.

I agree that Wario was better in Brawl than Smash 4, but I don't agree with all the points contrived in that overstated article "Why Does Wario Fart?".

Haha, you're funny.

Just so you know, Kyon, I'm not angry with you. I don't get mad over petty things. I just wish you'd grow up and stop backpedaling to your old, childish ways. We all want to see you blossom into a smart and sensible young man. Sometimes I get the feeling this Ashley fixation is hindering you from moving forward as a person.

Let me tell you something, Angler. I wouldn't be admin of the Wario Forums Discord if I were mischievous, they would never let me stay admin if I were what you say.

I'm not going back to my "childish" ways. I was simply wanting to continue my chat with OldPug, I was basing my idea upon his comment. I wasn't trying to piss anybody off, or try to act like my usually old self. Ashley, believe it or not, keeps me happy. Without her, I'd have never meet all my friends on the Discord, my closest, dearest friends I hold close.

I am not forgetting her now, or anytime soon.

I know about Kyon, I've been around for a decently long time, though I mostly lurk.

You don't have to agree with those. I'm just tired of the "Smash Wario doesn't represent his games well" tirade because I'm a Wario fan and an actual Smasher(I do compete), and on the Smash parts of gamefaqs, and occasionally on this forum, and even Smashboards, that gets brought up a lot.

And the argument is pretty much always just to make him Warioland Wario, not Ware+Land+World Wario, as if that is truer to the character than representing all of them. Wario isn't just Land, and should NEVER be just Land in Smash.

The whole japanese vs american side is another side of the debacle.

If your point was less extreme than:

That's why Smash Bros is such a blow to Wario's oldest fans. There's no respect for the character's identity and heritage.

I might not have taken issue but:

1. Identity
Japanese Wario IS the Identity, if you put them against eachother. Sorry, but localization IS not a primary source for the character's identity. You can localize Sherlock Holmes and make him an american woman if you want, but the original identity is the "truer" one if you put them up against eachother.

2. Heritage
Wario has moves from all his series in Brawl. His heritage was more respected than most characters.
Project M, which is lauded by Land fans as a much better take on him, takes a dump on whatever isn't Land.

"Oldest Fans"

Been playing Wario since I was five, starting with Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3.

Sorry, but I am almost certain you already had the Discord created beforehand and thus Admin already and people just agreed to it out of convenience and it just happened to work out. You didn't really earn it.

Sorry, I guess my statement was a little brash but I'm leaving it there for posterity.

Still, my more recent statement still stands.
