Wario Land references in the WarioWare series?

It's not because Sakurai (or the Smash team, or whoever) hates Wario Land, but because Nintendo hates it. (for lack of better term)

Most of what goes into Smash is still mostly approved by the original teams behind the original games. The WarioWare team has completely forgotten all about Wario Land as it is, so all the Smash team is doing is merely following instructions.
Then why don't they ask the Wario Land team? :U

Give me an 100% indesputable article/interview that states that the Smash team had to remove the charge because they were ordered by "the Wario Ware team" to do so, even thought it wasn't a problem in Brawl and then we can talk, if they had no issue with it back then there should be no reason to have one now and the whole "Nintendo at large hates/has forgotten about Wario Land" is BS anyway considering the truckload of Wario plattformer content we got in games from various other development teams including Mario Golf World Tour, which came out the same year as Smash and had the charge in it, and those games would need some sort of approval for Wario's potrayal and everything relating to his series as well if Smash needs it, so I don't get how Smash is suddenly innocent when none of Wario's problems in that series are present anywhere else, including the Ware series, which has put more effort into reminding us of Wario Land's existence them Smash will ever do.

Does it really matter, anyway? As could be expected, Wario is far from what we wanted, in Smash 4. But we all know that now, and discussing who's fault it is isn't really useful, I think. It's not like we can just send the "culprit" an e-mail and he'll send out an update with Wario Land references in it.

The plane that Wario uses in the Mega Micro Game$ microgame "Airpain" has some notable similaritys to the Bulldog's Land 3 design, hell, it might even be same plane:

Jump forever from Mega Microgame$ uses the Pinball Zone theme from Wario Land 4:

And Warioware Twisted has Dr.Crygor captured in a bubble, alot like this WL4 sprite

I wish there were MUCH more Wario Land references in the games. It doesn't really feel like much of a Wario game if the real series is just ignored.
Imagine Mario Kart had no references to the main Mario games. Or imagine Donkey Kong Country without the Donkey Kong (Arcade) references (no barrels, no Cranky Kong, no main theme, etc...)

Kindly stuff your blatant favoritism.

Ware is as much the real series as Land is and I'm really tired of people acting as if Land is all there really is to wario.

It's not like Mario kart, where the original series is the most iconic in gaming. Wario land itself is essentially a Mario Kart in the same way Ware is.

Okay, "real" was a stupid word to use there. I was probably in a pretty cynical mood when I wrote that. But I do see it as the main Wario series. Wario Ware is a spin-off to that. I still stand by that. If Wario Land hadn't solidified Wario as a recurring character in Nintendo's library and hadn't developed his personality (in this case his greed) then they wouldn't have picked Wario to be the "mascot" for the series.
Wario became the face of Wario Ware because his games were fairly popular at the time and his personality fit the story. So without Wario Land we'd have... I dunno, Diddy Kong Ware or something today.

I'll fully admit that I'm biased towards Wario Land and that it's still the series I think of when I hear "Wario Game".

What I'm NOT saying however, is that Ware is not a "real" Wario game or something. I LOVE Ware. And I love that Wario is the face of it. And of course, Ware is really popular. There's no denying that. But it's not like the 2 series were developed side by side.

All I'm really saying is that Wario Land is a very important part of Wario's legacy. And I think it's one that deserves some love.
If Shash Bros can't even be arsed to make one Wario Land trophy over the course of three games, then I'd AT LEAST like to see some references in Ware itself.
Like how there were some subtle visual references to Wario Land 3 and 4 in Wario Ware Twisted. That didn't hurt anyone, right?
I mean there are always hundreds of microgames. If a couple of them were Wario Land-themed, that would be cool, right?

So in short, Ware is a big part of Wario, and so is Land, but Land is the foundation of Wario's character and deserves some love, especially if it's from another Wario series.

Yes, I do favor Wario Land but I also love da Warez, kay? S^^ :fronk:<3

I'll agree that they probably wouldn't have chosen him if he hadn't been a recurring character, but their reasons for picking Wario weren't exactly based on your view of Wario's personality (which, for the record, I share).
Yoshio Sakamoto said:
To add on that, we got the idea of using Wario and the other characters because we couldn't think of anyone else who would be best for the role. Wario is always doing stupid things and is really idiotic, so we thought him and the rest of the characters would be best for the game.
It's notable that Mr. Sakamoto isn't listed anywhere in the first game's credits, but his word still probably holds a pretty decent amount of weight here, given his involvement with the overall series.

What, because both are spinoffs it means they automatically have the same value and they won't ever compare to the original series?

It's easy to assume Land doesn't have more 'authority' over wario because it's a spinoff as much as Ware is, but legacy doesn't mean anything against a good game. People tend to prefer Land as the canon of Wario's character because it's just a fact it was the series that picked up a Mario parody boss, used everything they could about the concept and made a clever, creative and overall good fucking game out of it. Meanwhile, Wario Ware has Wario in it because 'Wario is always doing stupid shit'.

Don't get me wrong, I love WW for what it is, but shoving both in the same sack when one put effort into making a character out of Wario while the other just took the leftovers of it, just because they're both 'spinoffs', is a pretty stupid way of measuring their value. If Land was a dumb Mario copy with a different character until Ware came along and made it its own proper series, then I'd be all over that shit and I bet many people would too, doesn't matter if it came afterwards or where it stands in relation to the main series.

''All warios have the same value and whichever you prefer is subjective'' is a nice thought and all, but you can't ignore the fact Land is what allowed all of those interpretations to be, and canon isn't worth a damn against what a really good game can do in terms of content and quality.

Well, calling Wario Land a spin-off is like calling the Yoshi series a spin-off. Or Donkey Kong Country.

Wario is always doing stupid things...

I wonder what they were thinking of when they said this. :SHmm: What stupid things had Wario done at the time? Treasure hunting? That's not exactly what I'd call stupid. Invading Toad's woods? I guess that was kinda random. Putting a bucket on Mario's head? Yeah? I guess? Maybe? How many people have even played that game?

I'm such a fucking nerd for noticing this, but the Wario theatre poster in Smooth Moves uses the same title fond which was used for Wario Land 1, Wario Blast and Wario's Woods, before it eventually fell into disuse.

They even put something into the O again, just like in old times.

Fun fact, upon playing WarioWare Touched again I just noticed that Wario's logo from Smooth Moves was already in Touched :

And Wario Man also uses the old fond :

Does Game & Wario Pirates remind anyone of Wario Land, what with its pirate/treasure motif?

Captain Wario's minions sure do look similar to some of the enemies.
