Now as we know already or are just now knowing, After years of being pretty obscure compared to most mainstream Mario characters (despite being Mario's first damsel.) and being reglected to just the Mario vs Donkey Kong series and almost nothing outside of that (save for the minor appearance here and there.) she has finally made her debut in a mainline Mario platform and strongly too, being not only the city's mayor, but a singer on top of that, now ever since she was announced to be in the game, I've been thinking, is this only the beginning? Like can we start seeing more obscure and minor characters in future titles? We saw what happened to Toadette, how she was originally just a spin off only character, but now ever since the 3DS/Wii U era, she has practically made a appearance in almost every major Mario title and even becoming a major and a playable character in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, and now we're seeing a relatively obscure character in a mainline Mario game and having a major role on top of that, (what with her being the mayor)
What does this mean for characters like Daisy, E-Gadd or our very own Wario and Waluigi? or more obscure characters like the 8-bits (The SMB2 baddies.) or the Kong family or even the characters from Wario Land and Warioware like Captain Syrup, Rudy, Mona, Dr Crygor and Ashley? Will Nintendo finally start giving them these characters the proper attention? After all Pauline wasn't exactly the most well known character before Odyssey? So If she has a major appearance in a mainline game, what does that mean for other characters?
Super Mario Odyssey is pretty much the beginning of a new era in terms of what can be done in a Mario game, and the way, I see it, Odyssey and Pauline both represent new opportunities, opportunities that will finally give certain characters some much needed love in the mainline platform era, like Daisy or Wario and Waluigi, but what do you think?
Is Pauline's appearance a sign of things to come? Is this a new era in the franchises history?
