What would you do with Warioware?

TB100

What you see is what you get, just a guy...
If Nintendo was to give you the rights to Warioware and you can do anything you want with it, how would you do it?

Here's my ideas.
  • Have characters actually interact and form relationships and chemistry with each other. (Romantic, Platonic, rivalries, etc.)
  • Have more connections with the Wario Land/Mario series and vice versa.
  • Give Waluigi and maybe Captain Syrup actual roles within the series.
  • Allow the minor characters to shine every now and then.
  • Expand on the characters and make them more interesting then they are now.
  • Have a Developers blog ala the Smooth Moves blog and update it weekly with updates and various stories and posts by the employees.
  • Promote it to hell and back with commercials, comics, promotional shorts, merchandise and everything.
  • Give Wario a new outfit, that has elements of both his classic outfit and his biker outfit.
  • Redesign the characters a little bit to work in both 2D and 3D and to slighty match the Mario aesthetics better.
  • Have both a good sized main mode and have a lot of optional minigames for maximum replayable, with the minigames being based off the characters Ala the recent Kirby games. (There is the main story mode and there's the optional minigames, with some being full out games.)
  • Establish a running gag or two.

So this is what I would do with the Warioware series if I had control over it, what are your ideas though? If Nintendo decides to give you the rights to Warioware, what would you do with it?

I'd make a dumb show on TV, with pop culture references. I'd keep it family friendly. I wouldn't want to make the show too serious with too much story. Maybe have Wario find a way to scam the world and failing everytime due to some random crap happening.

Now I could also go for a garfield type newspaper strip, with really short and clever jokes, that could work too. And if I can go further, I'd make a game and give the fans what they want in a new WarioWare game.

If I had Wario Land, on the other hand, I'd do a full blown cartoon/anime, where each season had Wario exploring a place for loot, and random crap happen blocking the way, usually Captain Syrup and her mechs. And of course, once again, I'd make a game if I could, to give fans what they want.

I believe Wario has a lot of potential to become a TV show or a movie, and sure, you could give it a convoluted story, crazy romance, lots of action, anything really, I think it'd work no matter what. That's how versatile Wario is. I'm the type of person that likes keeping it simple, that's why I'd go for short episodes of craziness for the WarioWare TV Show.

I would actually turn it into a rpg game. Prof Layton London Life anyone?
And the chance to play as other characters from the series mixed with 2D dungeon platformimg.
But we have to focus it around Diamond city to expand the lore! :D

Like TB 100 I'd make the characters more interacting with each other and give more depth to their personalities.
And I still want Waluigi to appear in a Wario game. WarioWare looks the right place for that, even if it's for only one game.

The occasional spinoff game of another genre is also a great idea that I would do.

Cool ideas everyone but I'm not so sure if I'm on board with trying to maintain more of a relation with the Mario series. I mean yes they are connected but I see Wario more like the DK series than say the Yoshi series in terms of relationship with Mario in that it's more separate. Then there's also the separate deal of lines being blurred with all these crossovers in spin offs becoming more common.

1)story-line: all stories of characters as parts of huge and strange story! And yes, characters will contact to each other a lot!
2)New Dimond city: Just making it more "American"
3)50% longer story. WarioWare always had 10-11 stages (Bonuses like Crygor and Orbulon in Smooth moves and tower didnt count). With all characters appeared in whole series (without Jimmys family or new once), it takes 15 stages with 2 Warios in, and 2-3 remix stages.
4)Mixed-up controls: using Button from 1-st stage, sometimes using gamepad like in twisted (gyroscope) from 2-nd stage, touchscreen ( touching from one of 3 3rd levels, dragging from 4-th level, swapping from one of 3 5-th levels) and mic using from 6-th. Reminds something? Because its control changing like in wii version, but styled for original trilogy.

Ehhh I always liked the American+Japanese aesthetic they were going with for Diamond City, it just makes it so much more unique and interesting and I think Americanizing it will loose a bit of it's charm in the process in my opinion. (But hey it's you're opinion.)

Well, I dont care so much, but look at city in Super Mario Oddicey: It looked so cool (Well, as for me!), and I wished to have something simmular in WarioWare series. So I thought having New Donk Citys desigh in Dimond city will be awesome. (But yeah, we have different opinions.)

CM30, this is what we'd do if we had rights over Warioware. We'd most likely make changes, that's all. If you had rights, go ahead and just release one, but some of us would rather make some much needed tweaks.

Like, for one, I'd give Ashley a story, more character interaction, etc.

Within a realistic scope these are the things I'd do:

Give every character equal attention

Goes without saying really, what Nintendo is doing with the Ware cast is shite and we all know, it says a lot when the flipping main character becomes a no show so many times, so yeah, euqal love for everyone, both in Ware and in other games as well.

Make a bigger push to get the cast aknowledged in other games

Rhythm Heaven Megamix, the Game & Wario based badges and the Majora's Mask Ware badges are steps in the right direction, but even smaller stuff can go a long way, like let's say, Mona Pizza advertisements on a new Mario Kart Wario track, just slap the logo and an old Mona artwork together and there you go.

A physical appearence would obviously be better, but again, I'm trying to be realistic.

Create a stronger connection to Wario Land

Speaks for itself really and there have certainly been attemepts to go into that direction, with the Land references in Wario's house in Twisted or Tiny Wario in general, but I'd like to see it go even further, introduce Captain Syrup into the series and give Wario more of the treasure hunter vibe again.

More character interaction

Speaks for itself as well, the only question is how to manage that, Smooth Moves did try to tie stories together more to a degree, so perhaps have flowing narrative the follows all stages.
Make a new game without relying on gimmicks

I understand the mentality behind wanting every game in the series to have something different, however I do think that WarioWare can get away with having a new one without any new control scheme or anything like that at least once, especially nowadays when many people would likely be introduced to the series with it's newest installment.

Guess it's time for my take on this thread -

  • Give a story
Warioware isn't very story based, but the least it could do is sneak in some backstories, even if it's a small bit. Characters like Ashley and Young Cricket could really use a backstory of somekind. Maybe make these characters even more interesting. Ashley's already a great character, but we can improve her! Nothing too awfully deep, but enough.

  • Characters interaction
This could be fun, having the characters of Warioware acknowledging one another in-game. Aside from the few interactions, more would be better. This game is about Micro-games, darn it! but doesn't mean we can't have an interesting cast!

  • Make some nods to Mario
Wario lives in the same universe with Mario, so having nods to Mario would be perfect, showcasing one whole universe! Think about it, while Mario is saving the princess, Ashley is making spells, etc. Just knowing Ashley shares the same world with Mario is making me all giggly (Not really, but it would be cool~)

  • Promote Warioware
This one is needed the most, like damn! IT. NEEDS. TO BE. PROMOTED! Like, you can't expect Warioware to sell if nobody knows it. Ashley's kind of promoting it, but we'll need more promotion Ashley art! along with Wario! and Wario, and don't forget Wario!

------ Here's Part one of my list. I'll probably come up with more later on. ----

that, plus more characters, character promoting, and...

more games that last longer than 5 seconds!

i mean, the five seconds games are cool, but i'd like a few games that do more than " jump!", "avoid!" , "grab the thing!", but at the same time arent overly deep or complicated to where it has to be its own release or something, kinda like an arcade style game.

i think game and wario kinda has this, but i wont get to play it unless it releases for the switch. :p

I would return Jimmy and Mona to their roots. You don't have to be an ancient disco relic to find Jimmy T appealing, but his style was genuinely cooler in the first game.

Mona is cute, and anyone who's taken media studies knows that sex appeal sells (but don't be tasteless about it). However, she has grown too sweet and tame. I'd revive Mona's law-defying edginess and her original outfit. Give her some actual personality again. She shouldn't be less popular than a kid witch, honestly. She was taken in a bland direction with Smooth Moves, onward. I really hated that cheerleader theme, and the photographer was very dull. What a waste of character potential.

Thanks for the brick, @Kyon I was half-expecting a letter bomb from you. I know how you feel about the pre-Ashley WarioWare games.

I'm not trying to provoke our resident Ashley nutters/activists. I honestly think Mona's original style was much more interesting than anything Ashley's done to date.
She reminded me of a cute femme fatale character out of a bank heist movie. She fit right in with Wario, if only they'd built on her mischief instead of taming her.

I would return Wario to his roots and end WarioWare. :^)

Ahem, on a more serious note and after reading through several posts I got one idea. I think there should at be one game that is more story driven. Now, the story doesn't have to be nor should it really be serious, but it should be something more than just the usual stuff happening and definitely more compelling than the Mario games. This could give the the series more character in terms of style and can also be a great chance for fleshing out of characters or at least making them more defined as well as those character interactions we so crave.
