Mario's Tennis was not "amazing".

I think the biggest reason so many people regard VBWL as being a notch above virtually (heh) every other Virtual Boy game is because it was the only big-budget, action-adventure platformer on the console. The rest of the library mostly consisted of basic arcade-style games that were decent, sometimes immersive distractions, but came across more as tech demos rather than full games. However, VBWL was the exception; aside from being a brilliant game as it is, it's biggest strength as a Virtual Boy title was it's scope and grandeur, something no other VB game can boast.

Now, that's not to say that the others are bad. There are actually some very well-crafted titles besides VBWL, and for what they are, they're perfectly fine games. But they're also usually a bit too simplistic and basic to compare to something as fleshed out as Virtual Boy Wario Land.
It's a shame that so many of them get overlooked, though.

It has probably something to do with the VB's limited libary of titles.

Mario's Tennis was a fine game, if a bit forgettable. The only thing that ever stuck with me was the soundtrack. And boy, was that soundtrack ever an earworm... I can still hum every tune.

It was special to me. I was hooked by its simplicity. Like NES Tennis but with awesome music, which is awesome.
