Ahoy there, Kolonel Pigmask! I know you're a fellow lover of classical music, and I've been meaning to share one of my favourite performers for the longest time. The late, great English bass, Owen Brannigan. He's pretty obscure outside Europe, but perhaps you've heard of him? Also, do you have a favourite performer, composer, or work of your own?

This is the piece that originally introduced me to him - "Sing a Song of Sixpence", from his album, A Little Nonsense. I love to start my day with this turned up LOUD.

WARNING: Massive profile post incoming. Watch yourself.

Ah, much obliged for dropping this by my doorstep! A wonderfully booming rendition of the poem. The orchestration is beautiful, and Mr. Brannigan's bass is spectacular. As for Owen Brannigan himself, no, I've not heard his name, however he's a stellar bass nonetheless. You wouldn't happen to have the rest of "A Little Nonsense" on YouTube, eh? I'd be happy to give the rest of his performance a listen over the afternoon.
As for your question, gah, that's an awfully difficult and long answer...Nailing down one specific piece or composer may take more time, but off the top of my head, might I point you towards the wonderful French composer and music critic of the 19th century, Paul Dukas? Granted, an extremely little-known composer-- one whom's list of works is short at that, especially because the majority of his works were personally destroyed (Dukas was exceedingly self-critical of his work)-- unfortunately only remembered today for his famous piece The Sorcerer's Apprentice, his work is phenomenal; both orchestral and piano works.

My absolute favorite of his piano works would be the sonata in E-flat minor, which can be heard-- brilliantly performed, mind you-- here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85FtJJG2oqY
The sonata is an enchanting, nigh unorthodox work that never fails to inspire deeply, not even to mention the tremendous range of scales utilized throughout the piece, thus making for an intensely challenging playing experience for any pianist. Absolutely one of my favorites to listen to while passing the time, be it a rainy day, a lengthy journey in a car or plane, or simply boredom.

Another fine pick from Dukas' small array of works is his symphony in C-major. Again, can be heard here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3osY987i7fA
As much of a stellar work as The Sorcerer's Apprentice is, symphony in C has undeservedly gone under the radar for far, far too long. It's equal if not superior to the former work. They share a few similarities; namely, both are rather melodic and similar in terms of emotion and expression; nonetheless, symphony in C is most certainly it's own beast, and one of my personal favorites-- for similar reasons to The Sorcerer's Apprentice-- due to it's strong, memorable melodies and musical range. Phenomenal.

Alright, I'll clam myself. That's enough rambling from me.

...On a more unrelated note, I'm STILL working on my massive post for the animation appreciation thread-- mostly in tribute to the late, great Milt Kahl and his final animation assignment-- so keep your eyes peeled for that one soon!

WARNING: Slightly larger response. Pack your sleeping bag.

You know, I was going to ask about a post from you on Animation Appreciation, but I figured you'd take your time and put some real care into it.

At any rate, what a response! Certainly, I will post some other tracks from "A Little Nonsense" over the next day or so. I'll only post a few though, as there are 17 tracks and some of them are pretty similar in style.
Don't go looking for tracks yourself, though. I've noticed there's a lot of rubbish-quality uploads on Youtube, which is why I upload my own stuff.

Now, I KNOW I've heard of Paul Dukas. Every morning I have my alarm clock radio set to ABC Classic FM, which is the national radio station for classical music in Australia. It's been around since the 70's, and my late Grandfather listened to it basically ALL the time. Heheh.

Anyway, the radio hosts are basically historians. They dig deep through the history of composers, famed and forgotten. They also hold special celebration days for different figures, and always shed light on unsung heroes.

For instance, we had "Dukus Day" a while back, to celebrate Paul Dukas' 150th birthday. The entire day was dedicated to his history, and covered his existing body of work...

        http://www.abc.net.au/classic/content/2015/09/27/4309696.htm

They also keep a chronicle of everything they broadcast, so it is my primary place to discover and rediscover favourite works, composers, and performers (like dear old Owen Brannigan).
Every morning from Monday to Friday they have a segment called "Classic Breakfast" which I listen to.

As a creative writer, I find works like the first and final movements of "Symphony in C" top notch for dramatic writing. That's a smashing selection!
However, don't be fooled. For all the history and music I've indulged in over the years, I don't pretend to be a learned expert on classical music. My knowledge is scattered at best. Heheh.

Anyway, it's really nice waking up every morning at 5:20 to a different classical work.
Sometimes it will be a soft, gentle piece to lull me out of my slumber. Other times the radio will suddenly explode with a thunderous orchestra, and threaten to give me a heart attack. Heheh. It's luck of the draw, but it really is a terrific way to start the day.

Pahah! I hastily sketched and inked this last night and loved the outcome enough to set it as my new icon. Still, it could use a lick more polishing, particularly the linework is messy in some areas and the lack of a background is noticeable, but it's a decent little sketch nonetheless.

        And who doesn't love DKC3?

I'll answer it either way. That remark was pointed more towards Kyon in that he was being the little attention loving son of a gun he usually is(and I mean that affectionately) and people being his audience and you and Ninja_Cat just happened to be people I picked to point this out though it's a lot of people who pay attention to him.

Through cloud storage, yes. But it's been a while since I last updated, so who knows how much junk I could have lost.
By the by, I supposedly didn't save a few things before the computer restarted, so that's several hours of music work down the drain...

I could've sworn I saved it, but my software is old and strange, and sometimes it just doesn't save correctly even though it claims it saved (or worst case scenario it corrupts a midi, though I luckily haven't had that happen yet).
