Anyone think the popularity of Ashley is a good thing for the fandom?

And kind of hope the character becomes more popular?

Because to be honest, I do. The Wario fandom is struggling to get people involved in it nowadays, and hey, any easy way into the fanbase is good with me.

Add how generally, few people are fans of only Ashley but nothing else that's Wario/WarioWare related (not even Kyon), and practically speaking, I'm fine with how popular she's becoming as a character. Games, other media, crossovers... who cares, it opens the door for more Wario references.

Anyone agree?

I'm sure there's gonna be that one person who's gonna disagree with all this, even if it doesn't do much harm besides open the doors for new Warioware fans. Speaking of which, I got Game and Wario only for Ashley and I'd be happy to buy a new Warioware game, even thinking about getting that Rhythm game (I would be lying if I said I wasn't getting it for Ashley.)

So, Ashley being as popular as she is could be a good thing.

I'll take getting regular new content in a series I like (even if it's primarily focused on one character) over getting (probably) nothing at all.

(tbh I Really Don't Get the visceral hatred some members here have for the mere concept of breakout characters??)

Ashley being popular for Nintendo shouldn't land Ash-wee some hate, I think some people are Jealous that their characters (such as 9-volt) don't get too much stuff of their own.

You'd think Ware fans would be happy for one of their characters getting this much spotlight time, maybe it's something more, maybe they actually dislike Ashley since the beginning.

I will just say that her popularity and current exposure won't do anything for fans or the series itself when all you get are people that fawn over Super Kawaii Desu Moe Ashurii and couldn't be assed to give the series itself a shot and in a worst case scenario trashtalk the series for no reason, which I find more degrading then good and it can very well cause a lot of fandom drama (where either side can be guilty of causing it I might add).

I'm not saying that everyone who learns of Ashley first, likes her the best or just doesn't care about the series itself is irrational or wouldn't care about anything else by default or that a character being popular is a problem, but I have yet to see an example of where any of the current Ashley exposure actually renewed interest for WarioWare itelf or a desire to converse about the series, I wouldn't mind to be proven wrong thought.

Exactly. Could have said all this myself. Heck, when warelander is the only one here posting fanart of the other WW characters in the fanart thread, what do you suppose that's saying?

Also, just a daily reminder that Ashley still holds next to no special importance in the WW series itself. Like I said in another thread:

...in the WW games themselves, Ashley still isn't getting any preferential treatment over the others. Do we see Wario praising her for being "amazing and unique" and giving her a promotion? Is she "star-launching" all the other characters left and right? Does she get her own "Ashley-themed" set of microgames? (Like how Wario's often revolve around himself) No, of course not.

But yes, when Ashley's on her own, she's barely selling the WarioWare series to anyone as it is.

Greatly put, Cm30. I'm not much for Wario games, but I'm trying my best to get into the Wario fandom, but with loads of help from Ashley. Ashley being popular and most well known character could bring more people into Wario's fandom, which in return could probably bring Ashley more into the center, meaning we could potentially get a new Warioware game if enough people want it.

Shortly put it, if Ashley's popular maybe it'll get people into WarioWare.

Here's my take on it.

While there is certainly potential to draw in people to Wario through Ashley, for that to have much impact I think is overly optimistic. I have seen a number of times where people like characters but don't give a toss about what they're from and only care about fanworks like fanart and character theme remixes. This particularly happens with female characters in Japanese-oriented circles. If Nintendo goes further with exploiting Ashley's popularity, it would not be far off that she may end up building up her own fanbase and not give much to the Wario fanbase.

While I don't think Ashley's popularity will hurt the Wario series and the fanbase, I don't think it'll really be of much benefit and may only benefit Ashley herself.

Those are fun, but we're just saying how we don't like how said character takes all the attention away from the series they appear in, especially when the one in question is already a relatively niche-ass/obscure-ass series in itself.

Also, agreed with BigMagma.

I see, but at least it'll help in someways as you put it. Let's say Ashley did get a fanbase of her own, would that in return get some Warioware fans but not a whole lot? Because I can see it working out that way, I for one can understand, I liked Ashley's song and stuff but had no real reason to look into her series until a few weeks ago because I wanted to know more about her, maybe this wouldn't be the case for everybody, but some.

Get some more people looking into Warioware, a long shot but maybe they'll look at the game and think of it as fun (like myself), and get the other Warioware games.

I guess that could be the case.

Let's follow the steps ---
  1. You find Ashley
  2. you like Ashley
  3. You wanna know more about Ashley
  4. You look into it.
  5. You find Warioware, a game you knew but didn't care about.
  6. BUT WAIT! Ashley's in it, maybe I give dis game a try!

Boom, insta Warioware fan (as well as having Ashley as their favorite.)

I think that's an ideal flow of events but not a likely one. I think it'd be at least equally likely if not more likely for someone to like Ashley but are not interested in minigame collections or platformers. Instead they could be content with Nintendo's Ashley pandering and various fanworks, thus maintaining this divide between Ashley and the rest of the Wario series. Previously this would've been strange but now Ashley is slowly becoming more viable as a standalone character.
