Boss Analysis on Wario Land 4

This sort of analysis shows something interesting about the bosses in this game.

Namely, how it tries to appeal to two different audiences (more casual gamer and expert) by giving you an 'out' for all the boss fights. Most bosses have a special technique you can use to kill them very quickly (not hitting the Teddy Bear ears for Aerodent, repeatedly bouncing on Cractus and Catbat's heads, etc), which is almost necessary to win in Super Hard Mode.

However, you've then got the item system which is basically there for the desperate. It's basically like an early version of the Super Guide for people who get stuck on a boss and need to kill it to move on, but can't muster the skill to really master the fight.

And that works quite well here. It means a player can choose whether they want to get good at the bosses and save money, or simply grind the mini games to buy their way through if they can't quite do the former.
