Cultural references in the Wario Land games?

Well, not exactly cultural references in the Japanese culture sense. But what exactly are the levels in the games based on? Because while some are fairly obvious (Arabian Night is definitely based on One Thousand and One Nights in the loosest sesnse), and others easily explainable (Fiery Cavern = Hell freezes over), I'm curious what the other series levels are based on.

Hotel Horror? That looks a bit art deco, but I can't really identify the exact architectural style/influence here. And while I've always joked that the boss Hot Roderick looks like the Stig (seriously), I doubt that's deliberate on the design team's part...

Not exactly a cultural reference but some cars in the Wario universe are designed after car models from the 50's and 60's. The Wario Car is based on a 1958 Cadillac Eldorado (Mario Wiki even acknowledges this), Dribble and Spitz' taxi in WW:MM and Twisted looks a bit like a 1956 Cadillac Coupe deVille, and the Brute, one of Wario's karts in Mario Kart DS looks like a stereotypical ¨muscle car¨ of the 1960's. (And the Wario Car.)

Sorry for bumping, I'm just in a Dribble and Spitz mood.

As for Hotel Horror, I think it's meant to be from the 1920's or so, in which case it would make sense that they went for the Art Deco style for the hotel.
