I saw this mentioned in a topic on ROM Hacking.net, but I couldn't find any evidence either way. Basically, the claim was that the initial Japanese print of Wario Land Super Mario Land 3 had a Japanese title screen, whereas the later ones use a slightly modified version of the English game's one.
