I know there are at least a few people here who really liked this console : p Like Ive said before here a few times, I really really loved this console, to the point that I once even claimed it was the only good console to ever exist : p Sadly alot of people these days are turning on this console, claiming it was "overrated", putting down the small library and the graphics and capabilities (even being the most powerful console at that time : p ) But there will always be those of us who appreciate this console and the awesome, and still beloved games it had.

What did you like about the N64? What are your favorite games for it? For the most part, the best games for this console were made by Nintendo themselves, or Rare : p As everyone knows, with the Playstation moving to the disk format, and Nintendos stiff licensing laws to protect itself of going the way of Atari, developers left Nintendo for Sony to make their games. But not every great N64 game was made by Nintendo or Rare alone. There are many great games on the console by other companies. I really loved Acclaim at this time, they made a few of my favorite games during that era, one of them being-

This was one of the very first N64 games we had, and I way loved it : p I thought the level designs were way awesome and pretty, and they just went on forever : p I generally dont really care for FPS games that much, but this was definitely one of my favorite games : p And the sequel was great, too.
Even today, I think Turok has way pretty graphics, thats one thing the N64 really had over the Playstation, the games for it have aged really well. I can play a N64 game and feel totally natural playing it, too. I play a Playstation game and it feels like Ive walked backwards in time : p

What do you like about the N64? What are some of your favorite games or memories?

Completely unbiased poll is completely unbiased.

This system is fantastic. I will stand by my opinion that the N64 has some of the best local multiplayer games of any system to this day. I may play alone on a Wii or Wii U more frequently, but when I have time to spend with my siblings, you'd best believe that this is the console we're pulling out. Among our most frequently-played games are Mario Party 2, Mario Kart 64, WWF No Mercy, and the minigames of Pokémon Stadium and Pokémon Stadium 2. I also have a lot of fond memories with Star Wars Episode I: Racer with two of my best friends, and I have a certain fondness for the original Super Smash Bros. (which I like better than even Melee in a number of ways, such as how every character is at least viable, unlike Melee where you'll have a bit of an uphill battle if you pick anyone worse than Captain Falcon). I grew up with this system, and I have a lot of fond memories with it.

I played Pokémon Stadium, Mario 64, Smash Bros and Zelda OoT on a Nintendo 64 without ever having a Nintendo 64. I will give my thanks to my childhood friends!

EDIT: Oh, and I also played 007: Goldeneye

If I had to choose a Nintendo system as my favorite, it would either be the N64 or the Gamecube. I really love a lot of the games on the N64 as they're still fun today play by yourself of with friends. (unless it's Mario Party without and you really want to destroy your hands)

Don't think I've spent as much time on this system as anything else, it's definitely a beloved thing from my childhood as well as a lot of other people as well. Used to buy and sell many many N64 games. Remember buying resident evil 2 for like 2 dollars at a thrist store for the N64 what a fantastic day that was, really fun game. The whole zombie survival isn't what is used to be.

N64 is prolly the Nintendo console I'm least interested in, I only really like Paper Mario and Majora's Mask : s

It was really the console where they were trying out new things, instead of improving on past things. As a result it feels pretty imperfect and the games don't hold up very well at all, frankly.

I have 34 games for the Nintendo 64, all mostly being Nintendo-made games and not 3rd party, as a kid I favored Mario pretty much. Golden eye is probably my favorite game, which explains why I somehow have four copies. : P

Loser

(not to mention 3d games existed long before the N64, and it was in no way figuring it out, the console is just older : p )

And you are the first person Ive heard make the claim that the games dont hold up well, in fact N64 games are generally praised for aging well : /

Goldeneye was okay, but I dont think it was the best FPS game on the N64 : p It always gets the credit though : p
I liked it though, played it alot with my brothers until my little brother got Perfect Dark : p I really liked that game too, it looked way awesome.

Goldeneye was highly praised by almost everyone though I didn't think it was the best fps on the system. There are far better games that didn't get the love they deserve.

Name one then?

I'd only say that Majora's Mask stands up well. Even Super Mario 64 and Paper Mario feel pretty dated. And Ocarina of Time is just a watered-down alttp with 3D graphics, so don't even bring that game up >.>

Goldeneye was really good at the time! I loved the missions in it! I'm not a fan of FPS but that game made me play a lot. Now it doesn't really stand up as much, but it's still nice to play! :p

Doom

And haha, pffft youve never even played N64 besides a few ports of popular Nintendo games for the console, geeesh : p

I mean, there is a lot... What I meant was which FPS game could top Golden eye?!

Kyon, you should totally try Turok. Its way fun.

Quake and Doom 64 were great, too. But Im more into Turok : p

And Perfect Dark was awesome, had a way awesome style and level design, and the story was actually way cool for an FPS game : p Its definitely a good game.

Does any of them have 2 - 4 players? Like a Vs. mode? something along those lines, because I had so much fun playing 4 players with my brother and sisters on Goldeneye.

Ever tried anyone of the Turok games? Quake? Or even Perfect Dark?

Perfect Dark is fantastic, much like Rare's other games on the N64. It truly was the golden era for Rare. Banjo-Kazooie, Conker, other people have said this but still Golden Eye, DK64, Jet Force Gemini. Banjo-Kazooie having the most fond memories of. The music in it being mostly remixes of said world or grunty's lair was neat. The whole grunty sister thing though. Gave you really gross insight to who grunty is.
