Shantae Thread

A Wario-Shantae (reluctant) team up game featuring hilarious situations like that has long been the dream game of myself and others.

Who knows, if Mario can team up with Rabbids than maybe these two can cross paths for a crazy adventure (that people actually want)
I an see it happening, there's a few developers that could do well with Wario and Wayforward is one of them. Let's hope they get the rights to make Wario games and it could happen. Though it is unlikely i will say.

But damn would it be cool. There are a few threads I believe on here that discuss WayForward's Wario Land/Wario-Shantae and most people seem to think so too.

We can dream right? Hopefully it won't be a dream forever...

Now for something different: do you guys have any Shantae headcanons? Because, as with Wario, I do have some:

  • Shantae is quite a big eater. Not as much as the Squid Baron or Wario, but she can eat a lot more than you'd expect. Especially when it comes to pancakes. In the beginning of Half-Genie Hero, she appearently ate an entire tub of cookie dough ice cream, so there may be some truth in this.
  • Barracuda Joe is only in the Ammonian Army for the money and doesn't give a damn about Ammo Baron, nor his plans.
  • Rottytops doesn't want to eat Shantae's brains. She may be a brain eater, but only the brains from the standard enemies that you encounter. Rotty once said it as a joke to Shantae, who believed it.
  • The gun barrels in Techno Baron's helmet are actually periscopes so he can see the world around him.

That Neon Shantae costume sure looks neat...but not neat enough for me to double-dip; unless this costume actualy has a big effect on gameplay, I don't think it's worth buying a whole other system over.

I don't doubt it'll be a neat little bonus for those who were still on the fence on getting a copy, and frankly, if I hadn't bought the PS4 version, I'm sure I'd be getting the Switch release down the line. But as things stand, I'm still happy with my PS4 copy.

Now, I might change my tune if even some of the DLC is right there in the package with the Switch version; would give me less things I'd have to download. But I don't even own a Switch, and again, I'm still happy with the PS4 version.

Don't know if you guys noticed it already, but this is a very special day for the Shantae series. Why, you ask?
Well, today is Shantae's

:shantspin:15th Anniversary!:shantspin:

Yes, that's right!
Exactly fifteen years ago, on June 2, 2002 Shantae's first game finally hit the shelves after years of concepts and development. And despite selling very badly it laid the base for the Shantae series as we know and love today.
Who could have believed that one of the last Gameboy Color games that didn't even sell 25,000 copies and was forgotten by the gaming world for years eventually became a really successful and popular series?
I'm so glad that I discovered this wonderful series, and hope many more will discover it too! :shantcheer:

Ha! You got to it before I did! Oh well, that's what I get for sleeping in. I'll post my write up anyway, lol

Today marks the day, 15 years ago, that the world was introduced to this wonderful little half-genie, who defied the odds and became one of the most beloved characters in gaming. And it's clear why--her beautiful games are wonderfully crafted and the perfect venues to host a character as delightful as herself. When I was stuck in a pit of absolute depression last year following some terrible events in my life, Shantae was the only thing that made me smile. I couldn't help it, she's just that loveable, and her games just that good. So here's to 15 Years of Shantae--and many more!

Oh man, did this really happen to you? I feel so bad for you. I had a similar thing one time, when I was basically addicted to WarioWare but not for the right reason. But after all, that doesn't seem nearly as bad as you went trough.
Like I experienced on more than one occasion and pointed out one time: Characters in video games can have a much bigger impact on our lives than we often realise. I hope you feel better now, we have a good time ahead of us when it comes to Shantae.

Unfortunately it did happen, and it was pretty bad. Things have definitely improved since then, but yes, Shantae is a big reason why! Her unwavering happiness and adorable personality are just impossible not to smile at, imo. She became a very important figure to me, sort of an embodiment of happiness itself. I'm not just a fan of the series, I've got a personal attachment to it and I will always be incredibly supportive of it because of that.

Yeah, she is. I have no shame in saying this, but I think Shantae is one of the most likable and adorable characters I have ever seen, not only in videogames but in general.
She is very nice and friendly (though Bolo may think otherwise) and always wanting to help people, and has some awkward yet cute quirks to her personality. She is also really good-looking, though that is not my main reason for liking her.
All in all one might say that she is the perfect example of the so-called ¨Nice Girl¨ trope, radically different from the many ¨jerks¨ that seem to be so popular in the gaming world nowadays. (Yes, I know Wario is not the most nice person in existence but I still like him because he's just well... Wario.) But you get the idea, right?

That being said, I must confess that I have some emotional ties to the Shantae series too, which is mainly caused by experiences in my early childhood that have been with me ever since.

Well Bolo's got bigger problems than Shantae, that's for sure. Lol sorry Bolo
She is "disgustingly happy", as Risky says, but she has her moments of annoyance and even anger (Mostly in the first game and Risky's Revenge) but she tries real hard to keep her cool. That's another thing about her--she's got such a well-rounded, complex personality. The depth of her character goes far beyond "video game hero", she feels like a real person. She's just that well-realized, as a character.
Glad to hear Shant helps you too. That's her job right? Haha.

Finding that character that means so much to you is always an amazing thing. I know that much from personal experience.

Of course, it sure doesn't hurt if said character comes from a series of good games.

Really does suck you went through awful events, though. 2016 was a bad year for a lot of us. A lot of anger, and stress occurred in that year. Heck, I still haven't fully recovered from its effects. But life goes on, and hey, Shantae got a game released that year, so it wasn't entirely bad.

Nah I can't see why 2016 was particualary bad ( worse than 2015 or this year so far) It was quite a good year to me, except for maybe the last few months, but the long-awaited release of Half-Genie Hero compensated for all of that.

I would tell you why I thought 2016 was horrible...but this is not the thread for it; it involves some rather...shall we say, personal stuff, which has nothing to do with Shantae at all.

But I will say that Shantae made the final week of 2016 easier for me to get through. I may not be a fan of GameStop anymore, but I had a gift card waiting to be used, and I darn well used it to get Half-Genie Hero. And I at least left 2016 knowing one of the only two games I backed on Kickstarter had a relatively happy ending. Even my brother and sister were happy to hear that.

Damn right! Good man!

And yes, the release of Half-Genie Hero at the very end of the year was certainly nice. Like a reward for surviving such a bullshit year. I've played it almost everyday since.

I was looking for some more info about the upcoming release of HGH for Switch, but didn't find anything other than what Juan ¨Shantae¨ Schwartz already told me. However I came across two post-worthy other things:

Here https://fontzone.net/font-details/jewels you can download the Jewels font, the semi-offical text font for Shantae since Risky's Revenge, for free. And here https://store.line.me/stickershop/product/1219509 you can buy a sticker set from Shantae and the Pirate's Curse.

Not very spectacular, but still nice.

Yup, you bet! Risky's in charge now, and it's gonna be something.

It's so awesome that despite the huge amount of hours I've put into this game, there's so much more left to happen. Soon Risky, but then the other 3 characters, the costumes, etc.

I may say this often, but what a great time to be a fan!
