Are all of the Ashley appearences leading up to something?

I feel as if I wasn't clear enough with what I said, and I apologize for that. Let me start over:

I don't even have a beef with Ashley herself, or her fans. In fact, I do like her myself. The thing is, I just don't like when it's in a manner that implies, "Screw the other characters!"/"Who the hell are all these other losers?" I just don't like when people outright insist that she should take all the spotlight away from them.

More importantly, I have two friends who are into WarioWare. And yes, they really like Ashley a lot. But I'm not holding that against them at all.
It's because they like her just as much as the others, not more than them. They're even quite upset that the other characters aren't getting enough love, though they're still happy that Ashley is getting out there all the same. Heck, again, the series itself is not even Ashley-biased in any form!

I still think you're looking too much into this.

Out of all the Ashley fans I've seen, most simply like her more than the other characters. They don't hate the series or anyone in it.

You still seem to make judgements about fans which aren't really based on evidence.

You of all people wish for evidence?
It's like you never heard Pilgrims and agree with the Chinese no puns intended.

I feel like whenever I say something I just scratch the surface. Why? Because I never want to study theology. Until I need it of course. Gah!

Where the hell are you seeing these people?

i have no idea what direction this thread has gone, i'm just shocked one of the first things i saw here when i signed up was a thread about ashley and the fact i got the username as well (hehe)

it'd be pretty nice to see some kind of game starring ashley if that's what these appearances could be leading up to, but unfortunately for some people i doubt that's the case
even as a big fan of ashley myself it just seems like a ludicrous thing, but eh whatever happens happens and i'm likely to welcome it

as for this whole "ashley fans that don't like the other characters thing"
if i can give my two cents, i just can't see how anybody can like ashley but hate every other character, they're all more if not just as colorful and entertaining as she is, i mean i can't tell you how much i love 9-volt, 18-volt, dr crygor, and orbulon
that and i don't think i ever would've gotten into warioware if it wasn't for the man himself :)

People never seem to think of the obvious usernames. You have all these members, and only one of the most obscure actually uses Wario as their name.

But yeah, nice for posting your thoughts. I'd say the chance of a game starring Ashley has gotten a bit higher since the merger between Nintendo SPD and EAD, meaning the WarioWare team and the Mario platformer team are now one and the same.

And the other characters as definitely just as entertaining. I'd say most fans know it too.

also hey! i'm like the fourth member on this thread with an ashley avatar

Not surprising. You should see the 'act as your avatar topic' and watch the three Warios argue it out:

well I certainly think it means Good Things for the prospect of seeing the Warioware characters in the next Mario Kart or other mario spinoffs, if anything.

I'm interested to know why they're seemingly pushing ashurii well over a year after the last Wario___ game bombed. Could it be because of...

1:Her popularity on the Japanese miiverse?

2: Her appearance in Smash 4?

3: Kensuke Tanabe (who, from my understanding, is fairly high-up in the Nintendo hiearchy) being assigned to make the Ashley minigame in G&W?

It may be a mix of a little of everything, but I think it's mostly 1. The Game & Wario JP miiverse was, like, 75% Ashley fan-art at launch (to the point Goro Abe even referenced it in one of his post on the developers community) and posts about her on the Smash, Art Academy (and it seems now, Mario Maker) miiverses are not uncommon and tend to get a lot of votes. It would make sense to test the profitability(?) of her character with low-risk stuff like that Band Brothers dlc.

im probably overthinking this though

I suspect it's probably general popularity, not just Miiverse popularity. You can find a hell of a lot of few fan works and references to the character out there, and perhaps Nintendo saw that. Like why Fawful went from sidekick to main villain in the Mario & Luigi series.

Of course, if she does get a game, that's good for the Wario fans, since it's a Wario spinoff in a time of few Wario games.

since the last post in this thread:

-ashley has received her own 3dS theme (released internationally for once), along with a promotional comic
-has been added along with the other warioware characters in the Japan-only app Collectible Badge Center. The update features several brand new costuems for ashley and the host specifically introduce her as "the most popular character from her series"
-a drawing of her has been used to promote the upcoming Art Academy Atelier

they're definitely gearing up for something, but... what

Well, I guess my assumption that something might be coming doesn't seem quite as idiotic anymore.

At any rate I'm interested to see what the future will bring, thought I'd also appreciate some non-Ashley stuff for a change as well.

An Ashley shower head, of course.

seriously tho, i feel it could be for an amiibo. i'm probably overthinking ambiguous translated statements ,but take a look at this recent mario maker interview:

ND: I was surprised how many costumes there were.

Oshino: It was really a big trouble since there were so many.

Tezuka: To tell you the truth, it wasn’t supposed to go like this.

Everyone: (laughs)

ND: Is this a thing that was originally invented when thinking about what to do with amiibo support?

Tezuka: We had a vague idea that we wanted to use amiibo, like if we got an interesting concept then we would certainly implement it. And then the artwork designers approached designers of the team and proposed ‘we tried drawing amiibo characters in pixel art, so wouldn’t we use them in some way?’ It seemed interesting, so we accepted the idea and experimented changing Mario’s sprite to a pixel sprite of a different character.

Yamashita: We had a sheet of Mario’s moves, so if we overwrote it, we could display different characters. Mario’s NES sprite has very few different patterns, so if we tried it out with one character – I think it was Wii Fit trainer – it would move in no time. Although we started in the morning, it already worked in the evening, so that was amazing.

Tezuka: It takes around a month to create a 3D model from scratch and get it moving.

Yamashita: Attach a skeletal frame, make it move… As you would expect, you can quickly make a pixel sprite that moves. Developers weren’t just interested, they were excited like ‘you can create a character this fast in this era!’ We discussed that if you can create one that fast, it seems like the amount is within possible limits and so we decided to implement them.

ND: So it started from an idea ‘let’s make different sprites other than Mario’ and that wasn’t limited to amiibo.

Oshino: That’s right. In the first plan you could play as characters that weren’t amiibo.

Yamashita: The starting point was strange things like Goombas and question blocks that grow legs.

Oshino: We talked with the designers to prepare about twenty to thirty of them, but after that we decided to support amiibo.

Yamashita: We hadn’t decided what to do with amiibo linkage, so I thought this would settle it smoothly and be just right. However, I didn’t quite understand at that time how many amiibo would come out… There are so many!

Everyone: (laughs)

tl:dr: they initially wanted to 20-30 random costumes and the rest were made for amiibos. somehow I doubt ashley was part of the intial batch
