Did they choose Treasure to make Wario World based on their name?

ah-ha

the likely answer: treasure had an pre-existing relationship with Nintendo because of Sin & Punishment, they have experience making action games and could do it quickly and at a reasonable price.

Treasure is famed for their original-licensed hardcore action games, but like Platinum Games now, took a lot of contract work to pay the bills. Bleach fighting games, Dragon Drive, Ronald McDonald Adventures, Gaist Crusher... etc. wario world was one of those.

I heard Nintendo liked working with Treasure, and they wanted to do so again. Apparently, they decided this would be the project.

I kinda wish Treasure had become the new developer for the series. Yeah, they're third party, but Nintendo worked with Paon on Donkey Kong for a while, and Artoon/Arzest made two Yoshi games, so Nintendo could have worked something out, I'm sure.

Not to mention it's not like Treasure never made 2D side strollers, so they could have made a good Dario Land title.

Or maybe not. The world may never know, now. :(

Your guess is as good as mine. This is something I've been asked a few times on my live streams and my answer is always...

"I don't know"

What some people may not know is that I believe the reason why Wario World didn't have as much polish as it could have was because they had been developing another game near the same time called Dragon Dive D-Masters Shot (Japan only release title). So, in that regard it makes sense why Wario World had suffered some in quality (Which let's be honest, the signs are all there as to why the game seem very unusually short and even repetitive).

Perhaps, they asked Treasure because they were developing games to their platforms and as another poster said about wanting to work with Treasure again is believable. Treasure has made many great 2D games and they did have some experience in the 3D realm with Stretch Panic. It might've also been because they were good at making platformers and also offered some decent 3D gameplay that Treasure were probably first got asked by Nintendo.

A better question would've been why a 3D platformer and not a 2D one for Wario considering their talent? We can all agree that a 2D Wario game done by Treasure could've been super amazing.

Honestly, for what we got was an okay/alright 3D Wario platformer title but if they had just more time we could've seen something great or better from it.

I just wanna say there is not a lot of 3D platformers that are good from other developers on the Gamecube. So I'm just assuming this might've been the case because of Treasure's good background history at developing.

It has always bugged me that R&D1 didn't play a bigger role in production. Apparently they were too busy making WarioWare Inc. at this time to work on such an important project. This was Wario's big break to the home console. His first (and only) 3-D game. It should have been top priority, since it was their series, and it had reached a zenith in quality with Wario Land 4 (and WL3 before it). But no.... it wasn't a grand collaboration of two great studios. It was treated like an afterthought.

Wario World had plenty of production time, it was delayed more than once. The real problem was Treasure having to constantly rebuild the game.
Dig through the endless old previews/demos, you'll find a mass of cool designs, concepts and areas that were cancelled/changed. I want to create a thread for this.

I was pretty close afterall. But the same still holds true, Treasure was already working on other projects near the very same time. I think this "collaboration" was generally one sided. Though that's really just Treasure's fault and as you said, it was an afterthought.

I wonder why, considering.

Exactly. Treasure were preoccupied at the time, which is why R&D1 should have played a greater role (in the end credits, all they have is two advisors and one composer). Such a lack of teamwork makes me wonder how much of a collaboration Sin and Punishment was, by comparison. (I'm guessing it was bigger)

As much as I love WarioWare Inc., it was only a crazy experiment at the time. They've stated in interviews that they weren't expecting it to be a success. So why pour so much priority into a risky new concept like WarioWare (which reinvented Wario), and completely ignore such a lofty milestone for your 10-year old platforming franchise?
