Could WarioWare make a pretty good TV series?

CM30

Diamond City Mayor
Diamond City Leader
As in, an animated one based on the hijinks of the characters themselves (rather than the microgames)?

I personally think it could work. The series has an interesting enough cast of quirky characters that you could make short episodes about, the visual style (and music) would be extremely easy to adapt to a TV format and all in all, it seems like a series that wouldn't have to stray too far from the original franchise.

So what do you think? Could a WarioWare TV series work?

I can see it working as a sort of Azumanga Daioh sort of thing, with several short sketches in a given episode. They could use the microgames as transitions between sketches.

In addition to the obvious gag cartoon route, I think a WW animated series could work as a stealh satire of the video game (and more generally, entertainement) bussiness. I totally can imagine rumbuctious, relatable, kid-friendly plots. Such as...

Episode 1:
Wario gets the idea to promote his products with a cartoon! But animation is expensive.

EPISODE 2:
Wario takes his animation bussiness to South Korea, only to learn the meaning of "you get what you pay for".

EPISODE 3:
WarioWare Inc. gets in steamy waters after a journalist reveals its usage of unpaid child workers.

EPISODE 4:
Wario wants to release games for MacroHardware's hot OpenGL Contrainer system, but his products fail quality certification.

It would have to be a completely bizarre and random Japanese style show in order for it to be in the spirit of the game.

Remember Mega Party Game$? Those weird intros at the title screen that featured little ants pushing things and walking fingers? Yeah. The show would be sketch show showing a bunch of weird surreal stuff mixed in with some skits featuring the WarioWare cast.

That's a great idea!

I really liked the cutscenes, especially in the first 2 games. They were simple but charming.

Shorts would work pretty well, I think. Each episode would be like 10 minutes with a couple of maybe 2-3 minute shorts and some really short stuff inbetween.

It should be done with as little dialog as possible though. Or at least not more than the games themselves have.

I'm not sure if it would benefit from voice actors but... I guess they can't just use subtitles like the games...or can they? I dunno.
They would have to use the original voices to make it feel right.

Just one concern: They would need to get the character's personalities right. The last thing Wario needs is more flanderization.

To be fair, voices wouldn't be much of an issue. Martinet's already voiced Wario for such lengthy things as the crowdfarter video.

And the others have sung theme songs...

Yeah it's not like the scenarios are very dialogue heavy.

Remember when Mona was late to work? Just needs one line. That whole cutscene really explains who Mona is and has a hilarious outcome of using a monkey to stop police cars.

Meh. Never liked Wario Ware Tooned. They seemed to get a lot of the character's personalities wrong. Also many of the old episode were very anti-Nintendo.

I'd like to see an official TV series of WarioWare. I do agree with the Azumanga Daioh method, for material like this would work best with that.

In the meantime, which episode of WarioWare Tooned would be a good start? I've been thinking about watching an episode, but I worry that I may not like it, so I'd at least to know which episode best sets the tone.

I could see the shows going along the mood of Spongebob Squarepants (especially the sound effects). Dr. Crygor would act like (what's his name xP?) the guy from Futurama creating some really deep inventions. It may be full of dark humor and euphemisms though, knowing Wario.

Hilarious examples^ Heck you could use the news to help with the writing, as business is becoming more, for lack of a better word, deep into our society.

I like some of those ideas as well. Although I have to wonder what system the OpenGL thing would be based on. Since when does any console manufacturer of 2014 do quality control?

I mean, if Meme Run got into the Wii U eShop, and literally fifty million crappy 'games' get onto Android and the iOS app store... I suspect WarioWare Inc would probably succeed making games there as well.

psn, xbox live and some digital storefronts such as GOG still have a vague pretense of quality controls.

oh man I love doing these:

EPISODE 5:
Wario's cronyic apointment of Waluigi as the next CEO of WarioWare Inc. gets him in the trouble with the shareholders

EPISODE 6:
Ashley and Kat & Ana are invited to the anual smash bros tournament, only to discover the other guests are disgusting dudebros

EPISODE 7:
Jimmy T. is haunted by the horrible memories of his time serving during the GREAT APE WAR

EPISODE 8:
9-Volt discovers his newest game is haunted
