Does anyone like the way Wario Land 4's levels change colour as you progress?

With each room having a different tint to the tileset/background to indicate where you are in the level?

Cause while it doesn't happen in every level, it works really well in the ones it does happen in. Crescent Moon Village is super easy to navigate due to each outside area having its own tileset colour, Hotel Horror actually works it into the atmosphere of the level (with the palettes getting creepier as you go up through the hotel) and Domino Row does the concept well too.

What do you think?

Note: Here are all the levels this design choice occurs in:

  • The Curious Factory (limited, two colours)
  • Pinball Zone
  • Toy Block Tower (limited, two colours)
  • The Big Board
  • Doodle Woods
  • Domino Row
  • Crescent Moon Village
  • Arabian Night
  • Hotel Horror

Wario Land 4 has the absolute best level design in the entire series in my opinion. Its subtle uses of color help to add to each stage's unique identity, while also helping to - as you pointed out - allow the player to quickly recognize where they are at a glance.

It's a nice little touch that definitely adds to the game's great design.
