Explain the Waluigi hype to me

Meme Waluigi and game Waluigi are two entirely different entities to me. I like Waluigi, but also the memes. Just how I like Shrek, or the Bee Movie, but also their respective memes. The meme subculture is just that in general: pick a random character, game, movie etc. and make funny stuff about it. Most often, these memes are started by the very people who are fan of said media.

I feel like most people seem to overlook that distinction.

How is he even a meme? Brawl in the Family? I've never once seen a Waluigi "meme" outside of that.
Most of the Waluigi memes hide inside of fanbase. Im not sure, these are actual "Memes", but Waluigi in SM64DS rumor and lack of Wah in Mario Kart 7 were huge discussion threads at the time. Heck, everyone heard of fanbase being mad at Smash Ultimate for Waluigi being "Not in Smash" (Stating "not in smash" supposted to mean, he is nowere in the game, but he is an assist trophy. Deal with it)

Explain the Geno hype to me (No really, why do we need him in smash?)

I don't know. I don't think some memes are created by a people who are a fan of said media. I think people make some memes because they can only enjoy something if they make fun of it. That way they can find a way to enjoy something without having to sacrifice their sense of taste. Like, I don't really like The Bee Movie. The only way I can find enjoyment in The Bee Movie is to make fun of it (or to watch other people make fun of it) through memes. Shrek, on it's own, was enjoyable for me, so I can enjoy it without having to make fun of it. But I do still like to make fun of it sometimes. ;) So I guess that's an example of people making memes of something they are a fan of.

1) Everybody loves purple.
2) Capital gamma looks cool, especially with that yellow complimenting the hat.
3) He's really talk and lanky-- this attracts the same crowd that's all hype for Jack Skellington (I'd love to see Waluigi doing the movements from that final Oogie Boogie sequence and the What's This number)
4) He's got a romantic side (see Mario Party 8's hat tip+rose reveal)
5) Once in a blue moon he pulls a badass card (Mario DDR and Mario Party 3)
6) He has all the appealing elements of the other plumbers' ensembles, for added points.
7) That navy blue could easily be mistaken for black, which, plus the orange elf shoes, makes him very Halloween-y, I think. Of all the Mario characters, he's probably the one that would be the most at home in a Burton stop-motion film.

8) This awesome sprite I found by chance; it's as hilarious as it is quality.
