Well, this took a bit longer than we expected.
However, it's all for a reason. Basically, our plan was to upgrade the site to XenForo 2.1, to take advantage of the new features added there and give us a chance to remove some extra plugins in favour of those features.
What we didn't count on though was that one of the plugins we were replacing (the reaction system) clashed with the default XenForo 2 reaction system, which meant things broke upon upgrading. Disabling it then had the weird effect of also killing off the built in feature, presumably because said plugin used the same database table names/structure as the actual XenForo one will do.
So this broke the site, we had to revert to an old backup, and a few technical issues needed to be resolved in the meantime. Either way, we're back now, and while the site itself isn't upgraded, most plugins have been, so hopefully a few small additions can be found there too.
