Unpopular Video Game Opinions

I may have already said this before, but if an rpg has a great stort and interesting characters, it can still be great with minimal character building.

Building up your character(s) can be a fun mechanic, but if the game has boring/no story and the character(s) are bland and have no personality, theres really no reason to spend the time making your character.

Story and characters > customization
You dont /really/ need character customization for a good rpg.

I'm tired of seeing Shovel Knight in everything

I think CM30 is right. I suppose the most logical explanation is that indie developers don't have enough, or don't want to spend too much, money on regular advertising, so instead they use guest appearances of their trademark characters in each other's games as a means of alternative advertising.

Interestingly, I remember a whole Mario Kart esque game filled with indie characters being in development at one point, which may well have been the pinnacle for that idea.

Unfortunately, I suspect it's been cancelled by now.

I guess it's indie devs trying to give each other a shout out or two. Which is happening quite a bit now.
I guess but does Grasshopper Manufacture really count as "Indie"? I know they're small but they've been around for a while and I don't think they've had any crowdfunded games.

There will never be a gaming experience as big as the move to 3d games that we experienced during the n64/playstation/saturn era.

It was a significant change in the way video games were created and played that will never be matched again. Seeing popular games like Super Mario, Zelda and Final Fantasy for the first time in 3d was such a big and exciting event, and no new development in video games will live up to the hype that that age had to it.

I know alot of younger people who didnt really start out until the gamecube/ps2/xbox era like to call that particular era "overrated", but they will never understand how big and exciting it was at the time.

possibly, but then there's always that one episode of What's New Scooby-Doo with the VR thing so realistic that Velma only figured it out once she noticed these tiny inaccuracies in her friends' personalities. It was essentially the Holo-Deck but with a set goal in mind.

there are few ways that can make one look like an old codger than saying "you young folks will never understand bla bla bla", like STUFF IT, OLD MAN. But, I can still sort of see your point, "you had to have been there".
Up until now, I've always been stuck in those Liquid Crystal Displays, but not anymore.

At one point, everyone becomes one of these people :p

You reach a point where your only response to those younger than you is " you had to be there", haha.

Yeah, there's not much chance of us seeing a gaming revolution bigger than 3D, at least not until we get really good, immersive VR on a holodeck type level.

And you kids better get off my lawn!

Actually don't, since we need all the activity we can get here on Wario Forums...

I think it's safe to say that the introduction of 3D was the most important event in the video game industry after the NES its revival of video games after the 1983 crash.

The original Luigi's Mansion wasn't that much darker than Dark Moon was, in either atmosphere or character designs. People often say the ghosts look creepier or something, but come on, most of the ghosts were rather cartoony creatures created by Vincent Van Gore from magical paintings, and looked about as goofy as you'd expect:

Meanwhile the portrait ghosts themselves, while awesome, were really not all that scary either. I guess Bogmire may be the creepiest thing in that game, and that was more of a reflection of the mansion's hatred than a ghost.

Really, the only thing Dark Moon lacked were the portrait ghosts, and Luigi's Mansion 3 basically includes those now.

While some people may think that (and obviously they're st00pid), I would argue that the first game is darker, but more in the sense of atmosphere. I'm no expert here, but I have played both games, and moving around in the dark for the first game felt a lot more choking, know what'm sayin'

The only thing that I would say that comes close as some others have already mentioned is the rise of VR. Even then though, it'll probably be a much more gradual thing that'll happen over time than the "jump" to 3D that happened.
