Over here in the UK, we've got an election in about 30 days or so and we've had an interesting live debate between the leaders on TV.

But I'm still not sure who to support, given the questionable policies proposed by just about all of them. I don't trust the Labour Party after their last attempt at government, I think the Liberal Democrats failed miserably in general, I don't trust the Conservative Party due to their pandering to business interests and richer people and I hate the heck out of UKIP.

And the others seem about as hopeless at the moment. But I've got to vote for someone...

Still, who do you support? And why?

None. Aristotle said people who don't like politics are destined to be ruled by the ones who do, but I sadly have to accept that fate. I don't trust political parties, as whoever is in power always seems to do a lot of crap, either because they're forced to do it, or because they're corrupted by power.

I'll just go with whatever is causing less harm.

I don't live in the UK...but I will say the last presidential election was plagued by two people I did not want to vote for because they were both bad choices.

So which party am I for? Whichever one is likely to actually do good by us...which tends to vary, and in that case, it was neither.

I can only hope the next one is better to us.

I actually used to be a huge liberal, haha. I pretty much believed in anything the left promoted : p

Nowadays, I have no idea where I totally stand. I agree with some of ideas of the left, though thats getting smaller and smaller everyday. Im not totally on the right, either, though. I agree with things like social programs to aid those who need it, but at the same time I have met people who totally have decided to live their whole life that way, barely work enough to fall into that tax bracket to collect aid. And if you raise someone in that kind of life, they do start to view the world that way, and you raise them up in a world where they rely on aid to take care of themselves. I absolutely hate it when the right blames the poor for all our financial woes, though. Its absolutely unfair to blame those who are struggling when so much of our worlds issues are totally due to the people who have most of the worlds wealth setting up society in a way that keeps them on top. And I also know that the whole idea of "those who work hardest have more" is false, because I personally know people who have worked very hard with full time work and schooling to make it so theyd never be without, but are now relying on aid because they dont make enough. So, basically I have no idea where I stand with these issues anymore : /

As for social issues, I was once all about that haha. But some major things happened in my life that have changed who I am as a person, and now I see many of the things that people are angry and passionate about as just being totally meaningless, and I no longer care about them now : p I do stand against abortion, though.

The only type of parties I like to support are Mario parties!

But in seriousness, I kinda consider myself a moderate. I find myself leaning more towards the Democrats than the Conservatives because I find their polices more to my liking. But I still think both sides have good points and such.

I was gonna start a thread about the US election and general politics, but I decided that we could just have the conversation here, since this is already a thing : p

Anywho, how do you guys (at least those of you in the US : p ) feel about the election this year? Do you support anyone at all? Do you feel confident about the two major candidates for US President?

Im honestly not real comfortable about them at all : p With Hilary, I mean the whole leaking info and being investigated by the FBI thing makes me a bit uncomfortable : p But also Ive become really disillusioned with the Democratic party. (I voted for Obama twice too) But like, more and more and really seems like they are working to divide everyone against each other. Like, with the Bernie comment, "white people dont know what its like to be poor", like thats an incredibly stupid comment, there are countless poor white people in the US. The Democratic party seems to want to make everyone angry at each other, supporting groups who claim the other side is holding them down, pandering to such people and all that. And that kinda stuff really makes me mad.

I have no trust for those who operate in this way, even if there is truth to the idea that all the woes of group A has been caused entirely by group B, placing group B, while shaming and dehumanizing group A, above group A makes you just as bad as group A. Besides giving group B the same opportunities is the best path to take, but to me it just feels like the Democratic party is pandering to certain ideas in order to gain support.

I hate to be one of these people, but Im not real super big on the Republican party either, honestly : p They stand for some things I stand for, like their stance against abortion. I dont appreciate much of their views on things such as social programs to help the poor, though : p I remember when Mitt Romney said something along the lines of parents paying for their childrens time in college, like the regular person could even do such a thing : p And though there is truth that people will become dependant on aid, things such as welfare and food stamps, I really dont like shaming these people who need aid, and I dont think taking from them will help anyone, in fact Im pretty sure that if you take from them it will throw our nation into chaos. Youd be taking a large part of these peoples income, which would lead to them not being able to afford even daily necessities, and possibly even lead many to the streets. The idea that it would force them to "buck up and get a job" (as if all people on aid wont work > : / ) is just not true.
A large part of success is hard work, definitely. And of course I dont support punishing the successful by taking from them to give with those who have less. But there is definitely a bit of luck, too. Example, my mom has a college degree, but injured herself and can no longer work. The Republican party has often done such crazy things like lowering taxes on the wealthy, which is ridiculous.

With Trump, I dont feel confident with him, but not for the (somewhat : p ) reasons you generally hear. My biggest issue with him, honestly, is that he makes claims now that he stands against abortion, even though he openly supported it just a few year ago : p So I just feel like hes saying whatever he feels would get him the victory : p I dont have any real trust in him at all : p

If I were going to vote for either of them, though... Id probly vote for Trump at this moment. Both for the reasons with the Democratic party above^, and also, to this day, no matter how many times I ask those who hate him, I have been given no real reason to not like him outside my own issues with him. I mean really, Im always told hes "racist" and "sexist", but if I ask how or wnhy, I literally just get those same statements again : p I get no examples at all, besides the occasional "regulating our immigrants is racist" arguments, which I dont feel is racist : p I doubt Im gonna vote really, but if I had to pick between two evils, I sorta support Trump more than I do Hillary atm : p

In the US election people are focusing on things in the opposite way they should. The racism thing is the biggest issue. IMO people who are promoting anti-racism are making the problem worse because they're identifying that there IS a divide concerning racial makeup. Bernie Sanders making comments that white people don't know what it's like to be poor is absolute propaganda bullshit that's trying to pander to the social justice warrior voters.

There are a lot of ways the general system is broken. Welfare programs need to become more heavily regulated, not in the sense that it cuts out people in general, but that it cuts out on people milking the system. There are several loopholes that makes people get by so easily. The same thing can also be said for immigration and proof of residency. My state is a small handful of states that hands out drivers licenses to undocumented immigrants, meaning anyone could get in and have proof that they are a US citizen if they wanted. If the federal government wants to focus on deporting illegal immigrants en masse, shouldn't this factor be addressed too?

People need to stop putting band-aids on sensationalist issues and address the causes at hand.

Speaking for the election and parties themselves, my vote is probably going to go to a minor party. I've never voted for the primary parties.

While being a strong supporter of social programs like welfare, I am all for regulation. In fact I think my state has a law that anyone who recieves welfare must be actively looking for work, cannot deny a job and has to have so many hours of work every week. I do not think that is wrong at all : p I mean, if you really are struggling, why would you deny a job? The only concern Id have with this is like single parents trying to take care of their children, but even then that can be worked around for those people, and that itself is a dumb reason to deny such a rule : p

And a minor party? Which party would you vote for, besides the Libertarian?

That I completely agree with and think is reasonable.

My very first election I voted for Ralph Nader because I hated Obama and didn't want to vote Republican. Second election I still hated Obama but I hated Romney more; Nader wasn't on the ballot so I voted Libertarian. I don't identify with any particular party, I stand with the parties on different issues.

Now for something slightly different: I would like to know where you would place yourself on the political spectrum. (From Left to Right.) For me, I'd say pretty to the right. (But definitely not far-right or alt-right.) But I also have some socialist and environmentalist tendencies, which are commonly regarded as being toward the Left.

Edit: Necroposting? I don't regret! :wahlaughback:

I'm fairly centrist I guess, though I'd be heavily libertarian/anti authoritarian if I was using one of those dual axis political compasses.

I'm not big on politics but in my experience i hear some good as well as bad stuff from all parties. I don't really support any side overall because they all got politicians that i do and don't like.

This got me thinking... what political ideology would Wario support? I think he would be a flat-out capitalist.
I can see Wario being libertarian, with a deep love of capitalism and the free market. Seems like the kind of guy for whom business would be the number one priority, and a party setup which is pro business/capitalism, anti government controls and doesn't care for religious style morals seems right up his street.

Center right, Im pro life and support the second ammendment. I prefer smaller govt and all that. Big on the free speech and equal opportunity junk (Im aware that everyone is born into different circumstances).

I do support social programs that help poorer people. Alot of people on the right seen to talk like things like food stamps are all bad. Im aware alot of people take advantage of such things, and I definitely support limitations on such things, like being required to either have a job or be looking for one to recieve them. But I think they are a good thing that should be continued.

Also as for wario I totally believe that hed be communist if he were in control of the govt, I imagine he has no principles and is only looking out for himseld : p
