Wario's sleeping animation in Brawl

So, I've been trying to find as many Wario Land references in Brawl as possible, and I noticed that his sleeping animation looks suspiciously similar to his animation in Wario Land II!

Here's a low-res screenshot I had to take myself since I couldn't find a screen of it.

Now, compare that to this!

Could there be a connection? Or am I just looking into things too much? It's just noticeably similar looking to how he appears in WLII when asleep. What are your thoughts?
