General Wario references thread (Now with Index on page 13).

Since my Sister somehow caught wind that I haven't gotten Smash for Wii U yet, I was able to experience the Gamer stage, hailing from Game & Wario.
The stage itself is obviously based of the minigame from G&W and 5-Volt behaves exactly like she does there, fake-outs and everything, thought there are quite a few more details to be found (note that the stage has several different layouts, so you wont find all of these at once) :

An obviouse reference to Mona's "Shutter" minigame, it even has those weird yellow people.

The gamepad thingy, it even plays the Ballon Fight intermission until 5-Volt hijacks it.

The TV fake out will sometimes show a part of the opening.

The numerous character cameos peppered trought the stage, couriously Ana shows up twice, 9-Volt, is there something you are trying to tell us buddy .

Iv'e been feeling rather nostalgic for the Game & Watch Gallery series recently, to the point of even dedicating a thread to it:
http://warioforums.com/index.php?threads/the-game-watch-gallery-series.658/
So I went back to G&W Gallery 2's Helmet minigame which has Mario & Wario as playable characters.
Upon entering the door to the right both characters will have a little animation: Mario does the V sign like he used to do a lot back in the day, Wario on the other hand does the shoulder charge!

It's hard to believe but even techdemos and Vaporware have Wario references in them:

Wario was in the DS tech demo Face to Mario:

The 3th player Mii in New Super Mario Bros Mii had Warios overalls, similar to New Mario U :

Wario was meant to appear in the canceled VB Mario Land:

Now for something from an actually released game:

Mario Kart Double Dash's "Thank you for playing" screen shows Toad and Birdo interacting, I always liked to think of that as a Wario's Woods reference since the two were working together in that game.

Okay, that's kind of weird. Especially given how it looks like Wario's head crossed with one of the animate moustaches from WarioWare.

Hey, that's pretty neat! Add that to the 'Wario Land references in Mario spinoffs' pile!
You know what's really sureal?

Looking at the time frames of this, G&W Gallery 4 and Dr.Mario 64:
-Game & Watch Gallery 2 (Wanderin' Goom) 1998
-Dr.Mario 64 (Land 3 cast) 2001
-G&W Gallery 4 (Hen and sea gull from Land 2) 2002
as well as this:
http://warioforums.com/index.php?threads/a-few-glimpses-of-wario-characters-in-mario-mangas.707/
It seems like Wario characters in Mario media used to be a somewhat regular sight at one point.
Kind of hard to believe aint' it?

This came from a Gameboy Colour promotional cartrige that was meant to show the GBC's capabilitys, Wario's sprites here are obviously based of his Land 2 sprites and there even is a potential Flat Wario reference.

The cartridge also had a pic of Wario based on one of his Land 2 artworks, that was meant to show of the colours that where possible on the GBC :

The Starfy game that had Wario in it also had unlockable Wario costume parts and even a cameo of the original Wario Ware in it's japanese version:

A bit more about the Game Boy Colour promotional cardridge:
http://www.themushroomkingdom.net/techdemos.shtml
https://tcrf.net/Game_Boy_Color_Promotional_Demo

So appearently the cardridge has all of the music and sound effects from Land 2 on it, which is odd.

Remember how you could find a sea gull from Land 2 in Game & Watch Gallery 4's version of Donkey Kong Jr. ?
It already was in the G&W Gallery 3 version of the same game:

This means that every game in that series that had Wario in it also had some sort of Land character appearence, which is pretty amazing.

Looks like a well done hack, given how little information I can find about it. Interesting video though.

The wild swing ding is in the VS mode of Super Mario 64 DS:

(Excuse the terrible picture quality, but you can't pause while in multiplayer)

Only Wario ( or Yoshi with a Wario cap to be exact) can pick up opponents and do this (it works excactly like it did in World) , so it had to be intentional.

You can't do it in the main game thought, which is a bummer...
Still cool that it's in the game at all!

Wario appeared in an very early demo of the canceled Diddy Kong Pilot:

The design of his plane might also be partly inspired by the Bulldog's design in Land 3 :

Speaking of which, the design of the planes in the Kamek boss minigame from Mario Party 10 :

Bears an uncanny resemplance to the Bulldog's original design from Mario & Wario and Wario's Woods:
