Yeah, I saw this idiocy. Fortunately, the trademark could well be rejected, like the Sony trademark attempt for 'Let's Play'.

Oh, yeah. It's nothing official yet. The scary part would be the implications if it happens to succeed. Based on their very lawyery wording, they'd be essentially trademarking an entire genre of video, not just the format they use. This is why I am glad that the internet is responding as negatively as it has been so far.
