So that's what those WarioWare poses mean...

Apparently the Japanese ones were very different to the English ones, in some sense.

As for couple of people in the comments wondering about how a WarioWare game set in the Mushroom World can reference Earth 'culture'... well:

1. Wario and the Mario cast have been to Earth a few times. Ever seen the Super Show or cartoons or anime or movie?

That aside... the first three Donkey Kong games were said to take place in Earth (it's kind of where the 'Mario is from Brooklyn' thing got inspired from), as did the entire Donkey Kong/Country series in general (and most of Rare's other games).

As did the olympic games, one Mario Party title and a few others. Wario and friends may have visited Earth once or twice in 'canon'.

2. We don't have evidence these poses exist in universe. Maybe they just exist for 'gameplay' purposes? To explain weird poses in a way that makes sense to an audience who don't know Mushroom World culture or standards?

3. Who says the figures these are 'based on' are the ones from the real world? It's not impossible that a Mushroom World version of Prince Shotoku existed, is it? We've already had some Japanese themes in this universe:

That aside, pretty neat article isn't it?

It indeed is a neat article, and it was when I made a thread about it back in August : P.

Out-of-universe, I'm still curious as to why SPD's productions get away with a lot more Japanese cultural references than EAD and other Nintendo divisions.
