Either way, it reminds me all those other horrifying 'implications' found in Mario games and spinoffs. Like how in Mario & Luigi Dream Team, the cutscenes before the Earthwake and Pi'illodium battles imply the last few people (maybe few hundred or so) that tried to get the treasure were mercilessly slaughtered in the process.
