Oh I played it. Was my first game in the Wario Land series.
And it was pretty damn good. Personally I think it looks better than Wario Land 2 and 3 (at least from a detail perspective, the lack of colour gives the latter two somewhat of an edge elsewhere), and I think the level design holds up very well to this day. Bosses are pretty bad though, with the first one probably being the most interesting (and challenging) in the entire game.
