What do you think about of grow old the characters?

Sometimes fictional characters can grow old, have family, have changes and can die (fictitiously)...

What do you think about of grow old the characters? Do you think it is fine? Do you think the character never must grow old and die? Is it more realistic? Is it unnecessary? Would be fine grow old characters like Mario (Nintendo), Mickey Mouse (Disney) and Barbie (Mattel)? Would be not fine grow old any character?

I will waiting your answers.

I thought for sure Mario and Princess were gonna get actually-married at the end of Odyssey, but Nintendo would never freaking lock themselves into something like that I guess.

It surely would've made Odyssey more memorable though... "Oh, you mean the one where Mario and Peach got married? Yeah I love that game!"

Now I think about it, you're right.
Nintendo want to keep Mario as universal as ever.
DON'T WANNA LOSE THE SINGLE CROWD!

There are characters that never grow old but have time jumps. Mario was once a baby and then he grew up. So aging happens only when they want it to happen.

As for Mario getting married in Odyssey? It was something the some of the concept artists actually considered before it was scrapped. I think they could have pulled it off. Why not? I don't think much would change in the series if Mario married Peach. They would probably do the same things they always did.

Mario and Peach are cute together, but I don't know if Nintendo should let them marry. It would make the Mario canon unnecessarily complex and remove a lot of the ''humble plumber rescues beautiful princess'' charm that the games always have had.

Can we get a source for this? Sounds interesting.
Here you go.

Would it though? Mario hasn't been the humble plumber in years. To quote Pauline, he's a "Superstar" who has entire amusement parks built in his name in-universe. He's a famous celebrity now. Getting married wouldn't stop the adventures. He's a hero extraordinaire! And imagine having a husband and wife adventure duo? I'd say it would be a bold new direction for the series.

Mario is certainly just as famous in-universe as he is in real life, I know. With ''humble plumber'' I mean that he is not some charming fairytale prince, just a simple short man in a plumber suit with a thick Italian accent. He is famous, but doesn't really behave as such. That's what I like about him.
Peach adventuring together with Mario would be cool for sure, but I'm afraid it will mean no more Super Mario Bros. adventures from then on.

Hmm..
Interesting.
I reckon Mario and Peach could get married, but then it'd be weird to recycle the rescue storyline.
Maybe Nintendo's making her independent so they can make another Super Princess Peach?

Eh. It has to be done well, and I have to feel it's justified somehow.
In MGS4, playing as Old Snake, seeing him have to die...
This. It worked well for the MGS series, watching Snake age--even from MGS to MGS2. It can be impactful from a story perspective. I'm not sure I'm all that interested in seeing Nintendo do that with most of its characters, however. It just doesn't seem necessary. Perhaps because story is almost always secondary in Nintendo games.

Honestly, Mario and Peach getting married wouldn't change much. They've basically been a couple so long that everyone expects it, and the percentage of people identifying with Mario because he's not married is probably small enough to be nearly non existent.

I guess it would change Peach and Bowser's relationship in universe, since the latter wanting to marry the former seems to be an increasingly prominent part of his plans, but it's Bowser. I don't think he's the one to care much if his love interest has already married someone else before kidnapping her.

But that's kind of besides the point. What do I think about characters aging in general?

Eh, depends on the story I guess. Most characters in fiction don't age much because it fits their series better; you're not gonna see a 60+ year old Mario or Luigi because it'd look ridiculous, and for many others their age is part of their series setup. For most series on Cartoon Network, Disney Channel or Nick, aging up the characters would basically require changing the premise of the entire show.

Still, it can work, it just needs to be part of the initial story, or have the sequel/future part change style to match the different context the characters would logically find themselves in.

Wondering if Mario and Luigi will still be gooma stomping, go-karting, breaking blocks with their bare hands and rescuing princesses at age 80.

Super Mario 3D World showed us that you can have a regular Mario game without Peach being kidnapped. Bowser just kidnapped someone else. You could do that from now on. I think people would prefer that. We're pretty sick of the Peach getting kidnapped thing.

Don't know. I can't really see Bowser kidnapping anyone other than Peach or maybe Daisy while still retaining something from the original standard plot.

Honestly, why do you even need someone to be kidnapped? That's not necessary for a good platformer (or any other type of game).

Wario took Mario's castle. K Rool and co took DK's bananas (at least in the first game). Captain Syrup stole a statue of Peach, then Wario's Castle. World had the Black Jewel transform Wario's Castle. Etc

Just have Bowser or whoever the new villain is take over the Mushroom Kingdom or whatever.
