Yeah I like to bring that up too, how early Simpsons had heart. That's why Lisa is my favorite character, the episodes about Homer and Lisa bonding are always the nicest episodes, they often make me tear up a bit. I miss that about the show. Sadly, Lisa is hated strongly by the fans cuz of politics and junk, and I think its too bad, they dont know how special the character used to be.

Principal Charming was one of those episodes I remember from my earliest boyhood. It'll always be one of my favourites. It was a sad episode, and I loved the recurring background music they used throughout.
