A prison guard? Heh. I suppose those windows do look like prison cells in the moonlight, don't they?
It's not a prison at all. It's a dark and seemingly endless hallway that comes from an old Simpsons adaptation of Poe's "The Raven" (the original Halloween Special from 1990).
This image really intrigued me as a boy. Many of the angles, colours, and scenery I found to be strange, abstract, and spooky.
Sorry to get all artsy-fartsy on you, Jawf. Hahah. This stuff is ingrained in my history, ya' see, so I tend to get carried away with nostalgia. Cheers for showing an interest in my random profiles, mate!
The first simpsons hslloween special is the BEST special. The evil house, the how to cook for forty humans and the raven (voiced by darth vader) are really well done and feel spooky. I showed it to a friend whos a writer and loves literature and junk one hslloween and they loved it.
Really, I could not agree more.
As a writer and illustrator, I don't think anyone intrigued me more as a boy than James Earl Jones reading those haunting old lines while the smoke from Homer's fireplace turned into ghostly hands, or his chair drifted far away as he slept, into some eerie, baron landscape.
Still gives me goosebumps recalling those strange old feelings and fears, like the echoing taps at the door while the camera stretches. It's all about atmosphere, and that's exactly what I want to convey in my work someday.
