I think it's debatable whether some of these instances are actually leitmotifs
I mean do they have any thematic significance or was the composer just lazy

Yes, they do, and OHHH HELL YES this is a leitmotif my friend. Bionicle Heroes on the GBA has one main theme that I'm starting to think might be leitmotifed for EVERY song in the game (in which case, holy fuck), but it's done so sneakily that you would HAVE to go to the lengths that I have in my quest to make MIDI transcriptions for some of these kickin' tunes before you would really start to realize. Every single track is completely and incredibly memorable, to the point where I would be flabbergasted if you told me each and every one of them was secretly "the same song," ykwim? The only time I was able to tell was for Ring of Ice and Ice Challenge, and that's because the lead uses the same instrument. And because Ice Challenge is pretty much intended to be an EDM remix of Ring of Ice-- if it didn't sound the same I'd be kind of disappointed.

If you wanted, I could invite you to my discord, I'd post the bass lines for both songs (I've finished copying both of them by this point). Even if you don't, I recommend listening to the tracks I mentioned, Up in the Trees (aka The Green Belt) and Ice Challenge (aka Thok's Cavern). They sound pretty much nothing alike, until you start REALLY paying attention to how the riff progressions are worked. They're also both kickass, but in completely different ways.

I USED to have the composer's page where you could commission him but I FORGOT HIS NAME ;__;

...Ooh, I know, I can go look up a video of the credits sequence.
