So basically they're the equivalent of someone putting a SMW custom block that's solid if big on top of actual water tiles, then that giving the appearance big Mario can walk on water? Guess that makes sense. May have been a last minute gimmick.

100% agree. There's a ton of potential for awesome Wario mods, and I hope they become as common as SMW or SM64 hacks one day.

How are you at other Smash Bros games with Wario? Both official ones (Brawl, 4 and Ultimate itself) and fan made ones like Smash Remix?
