Have to say, one of the best things about the Wario Land series being so varied is that the fanbase isn't so nostalgia based. There's no single 'formula' that people expect from each game, so variety is accepted here.

Wario Land in my opinion. Wario World is nice too, but I want the series back.

Wario definitely gets slowed down when picking up larger enemies in Wario Land 4. Compare his speed when carrying a Spear-Mask vs when carrying a Ringosukī. He throws the former way further, and moves at a speed close to his normal fast walking speed.
