You can unlock Nintendo consoles to play WarioWare on in WarioWare Gold?

Sure, it's not the most advanced thing ever, and you can only play three microgames on loop rather than a larger selection (or even more hilariously, the entirety of WarioWare Gold itself), but come on. That's just such a 'meta' concept, and it works so well in this title.

Anyone else feel the same way?

Yeah, I agree. When I won my first handheld system from the capsule machine, I thought it was just a 3D model which you could view from diffferent angles at first, but I was surprised to find that you can actually play some microgames on it by selecting the power button. My mind was blown. Playing WarioWare on a 3DS in a WarioWare game on the 3DS is as meta as you can get.

I also love how they included pretty much every iteration of the 3DS, so that whatever version of the system you are playing, you can say that you are playing on it in the game.

It’s crazy, but I guess you gotta expect the unexpected from this series.

I'm a bit disappointed that they are only 3DS's.
The original microgame had an original DS, a Gameboy Advance, and an SP. Very different looking systems.
But the new one only has different 3DS models... (instead of pressing a specific button you have to find the touch pen...)

It feels like they only used that microgame and those souvenirs to advertise their 3DS models, not to show off Nintendo's history of handhelds.
They even put up the name of each model on the screen instead of that animation where Wario smashes against the screen.
They might as well have put "Go out and buy one today!" or "Collect them all!" on the screen.
Heck, the description even says "Wow! Look at all those 3DS systems! It's no big deal but... I have one of each! ..."
Wow, real subtle there, guys.

Maybe I'm getting cynical, but a lot of the new Nintendo-themed microgames felt kinda advertisey.
A Nintendo Switch one, an Amiibo one, a Mii one... and even a Wii menu one. (Though they don't sell Wiis anymore.)
They felt a bit generic and didn't really show off anything classic. ....unless you find the Wii's menu or switch joy cons particularly classic.
Felt like a bit of a waste. Having one microgame about a more modern thing was neat. But 4?

Couldn't the Switch at least have shown some games on its screen after you turn it on? Even the Wii menu only has generic wii channels or non-specific ones. At least the Amiibo game has some funny not-amiibos.
Though if I had made that game, I would've made something funny happen when you do it right (or wrong).

Anyway, back on topic, how awesome would it have been if there was a Gameboy Color souvenir, that lets you play 3 microgames that look like a Gameboy Color game?
In fact... :SHmm:

Never quite understood why 9-Volt's microgames were about all things retro, until they added modern stuff since Smooth Moves, and they made the other Volts follow this as well. And yes, these ¨new stuff¨ microgames felt kinda like advertisement. I doesn't have to be a bad thing to put a little advertisement in the game (remember the ¨plot¨ of 9-Volt's story in Mega Microgames?), but at least don't make it too obvious.

Part of it is just the nostalgia. That feeling of "hey, it's THAT thing! I love that!"
Which also works for more modern things. Doesn't have to be old or classic. It can just be beloved in other ways too.
Like, if they had a microgame about Breath of the Wild, it would be just as cool as the Wind Waker microgame, even though it came out comparatively recently.
But I don't get that feeling from non-specific Wii things or regular-ass 3DS's.
If that Wii menu microgame was a Mario Galaxy microgame instead, it would've been much cooler!

See? Same basic concept in terms of controls, but much more appealing!
Level 1 could just be you collecting all the starbits, Level 2 has you feeding the Luma (it could be a bit to the side, so you actually have to aim), and level 3 makes you collect the starbits first and then feed them to the luma.
