All of the racers above exept for Metal Mario, aren't characters, they are literally just alternate pallets that a player can choose like in Smash or Mario Golf 64:

As such I find them completely harmless, nobody complains about the alternate Yoshi and Shy Guy colors that come with Mario Kart 8's DLC after all, so this is hardly anything heinous.
