Here's a little coincidence I noticed, the year 2000 gave us 2 of the best known games in their respective franchises, you have Wario Land 3 and the The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, now I'm obviously not saying that WL3 is secretly a story about Wario in purgatory or going through the stages of grief akin to most fan theories concerning MM, but I'm actually going to mention something that most have probably already noticed. But returning to the main question, could the Music Box World actually be inspired, in partial concept not in its entirety, by Termina of Majora's Mask?
Parts of the game have some similarities, in the way the idea is executed, first you have the arrival of both heroes to these alternate Worlds.
Link by falling into a strange pit inside a tree which leads to a cave, and Wario crashing his plane and walking into the cave like shrine, sure no striking similarities found here but I guess both having fallen into their new Worlds counts.
But now to the main course of this little theory of mine, both have one thing they share in common, enemies that have the same function another enemy had in the outer one, I'm going to mostly focus on Wario here as the comparison is now concept wise. You have the spiky point enemy, which in the outer world is the spearmen of the black sugar gang and in the inner one is one of those light blue pointy dudes that has the spike as a natural weapon rather than a external spear like weapon. You have the bakers, which are of more animalistic appearance in the outer world but in the inner one are mostly humanoid type creatures. Springers, in the outer world they are canine like creatures with hammers they bash you with, in the inner world they are Robots. I think you get the general idea behind this, so moving on.
Then you also have characters that resemble greatly their outer world counterparts, as much as I would like to mention the Owl and the Snakes, those would be to easy to count as they are natural animals of their respective worlds, I would lean more towards the Rabbit, either it be Dunk of WL2 or the unnamed similar Rabbit from WL3, both share a shocking similarity, either the devs really thought it well about including alternate versions of past bosses or they were probably lazy bastards who repurposed sprites hahah (I'm joking obviously with this part). But returning onto my point, the Rabbit of the outer world seems to like basketball, while the one in the inner one likes Soccer, their boss battles consist of Wario challenging them in their respective sports (who knew the fat man was good at sports, taking aside the mario spin-offs of course as these games predate them haha). Even the areas you fight them are very similar, a back alley of a city.
Which also brings me to another point, just like Termina, could some of the locations of the Music box world be parallels to those seen in the Outer World. For example the Town of Wario Land 2 and the City Complex of WL3 , I'm guessing the craters could be parallels to Stove Canyon or more logically the Colossal Hole as both are enormous holes in their respective worlds, difference being Stove Canyon is more like an internal ground volcano while the Colossal Hole is just what the name says a colossal hole, but if Termina showed us that levels parallel to those in the outer world don't specifically have to be the same (Goron zone being volcanic in OOT and arctic in MM ), then I think the Colossal Hole/Stove Canyon comparison is valid. Another parallel would be mainly the wooded levels of WL2 and WL3, I know I mentioned I wouldn't do this with the Snakes and Owls as they have practically the same function (well the snake not being a boss and rather an ally in WL3 might count but who knows), I mostly compare the initial Wooded levels as their OST track shares the same name, just no the same melody, WL2 and 3's Out of the Woods being used for these levels, and in essence have similar layout and enemies.
I'm going to stop here, as I probably have more points, but as mentioned earlier, I think you get the point, do you have more similarities between MM and WL3? or more parallels from WL1 and 2's Outer World with WL3's Music Box one? I haven't played VB Wario Land but I'm guessing something from that game could be missing in this little theory, so pointing out stuff from that game counts as well, I suppose...
That'll be all, this theory is something I thought up while playing Wario Land 3 and Majora's Mask the other day, which both surprisingly in some ways also share the tone and atmosphere, but that's a topic for another day.

It's an interesting theory, and it'd certainly explain why it also has a sports playing rabbit boss and suspiciously similar monsters to past games in general.

However, I'm not sure they explicitly based it on Termina. Alternate world concepts are really common in fiction, and the two Nintendo dev teams could have came up with sort of similar ideas simultaneously. After all, they're not very... similar in their actual feel are they?

But I'm interested in what other people here think about the theory anyway.
