How would Waluigi work in a platformer?

Hey yall.

Considering that all of the bros been in a platformer game, it seems only right Waluigi was in a platformer, preferably as player 2 in a Wario Land game. We can dream, right? But how would he play?

Looking at how Luigi works to Mario, let's use this for Waluigi's design. Luigi trades precision for higher jumps, so Waluigi shall also trade precision for higher jumps. But since Wario has more moves in his games than Mario, Waluigi will have more "trades" throughout this moveset. Instead of forefront strength like Wario, Waluigi would have more tricks up his sleeve, using crazy uncontrollable approaches instead of completely mowing down opponents.

Waluigi's "dash attack" will work differently compared to Wario, of course. Instead of a shoulder check body slam, Waluigi would be more... tricky. Waluigi spins in place for about a full second, similarly to Meta Knight's neutral B in smash. You may move left and right during this spin. Jumping during this spin on the ground will have you spinning in the air. You can also use the spin in the air unlike the shoulder bash.

So, with full control of movement of this spin, isn't this a better shoulder bash? Not entirely. Hitting something (the bounce back in Wario's attack) will be much harder to control. Instead of a little bounce, you got big bounce! The bounce back is doubled when you hit something with the spin. Also, you can't cancel this spin unlike Wario's dash attack. You are trading versatility for harder controls.

As for a replacement for the ground pound, I would just replace it with a standard leg drop.

For picking up and throwing things, Waluigi will have less power when not charged up, but will have more directions at which he can throw. More versatality, but more difficult to throw things far.

Other misc things... Waluigi will have a bigger hitbox, making him easier to hit.

Overall, the general direction I want Waluigi to go is the more crazy approach that makes him easier to get hurt, while Wario is more tough, but not as versatile.

Ay, just a thought.

Well, the old rumours for Mario 64 DS implied Waluigi would have super speed esque abilities, so maybe he could play a role somewhere between Luigi and Toad in SMB 2? Jumps high, runs fast, but with very poor traction and limited strength.

Mario 64 Online also has him as a playable character, where he's tall, fast and has a double jump, but takes far more damage than other characters do.

Alternatively, I guess you could give him a gimmick, like this old fan game did:

Reminds me, I should get back to playing Psycho Waluigi over this quarantine.
Waluigi having a lot of speed is a definitive must, now that I think about it. Looking over New Super Mario Bros U and New Super Luigi U, Luigi's game is more of a reckless speedrun, while Mario's game is more slower paced. Since WarioLand is a very slow paced game, exploring the world, Waluigi would be the complete opposite, having a even speedier journey than Luigi's.

Anyways, that's how it goes: Mario is slow, Wario is slower, and Luigi is fast, Waluigi is faster. Waluigi would be pretty interesting starring in his own game. I feel like the gameplay for a WarioLand ft. Waluigi would be similar to King of Cards in Shovel Knight. In King of Cards, it is up to the player how fast you want the gameplay to be; you could totally speedrun the game around 30 minutes, but clearing all the levels and getting all the collectables takes many many hours. If you want to enjoy each level and find every treasure, pick Wario. If have the skill to speed through the game as fast as possible, pick Waluigi. Hm, I like this idea.

Is Psycho Waluigi a game you'd recommend? I know of its existence for quite some time, and I've seen a lot of footage of it, but for some reason I've never felt the urge to actually play it.

Thirty minutes?! Do you know how bloody hard this game can be? And even if you're going after all collectables, you still have to be good as heck at Joustus, and know exactly where each and every chest, Merit Medal, and bonus area ring is located and how to get it.

Eh, it's a good game alright, but I remember it being also a bit hard. Not that hard, but hard enough I took 30 minutes on a boss. I recommend it though, it is pretty well made.

You can be suprised with what people can do.
Doing literally everything in the game takes a long, long time compared to how fast you can speedrun it.
