On that UK 'Internet Safety Act'...

We've seen the news, and we're 100% against it. We've signed the petition here:

And recommend you guys do as well.

Regardless, it shouldn't affect Wario Forums. Nothing here is adults only/NSFW in the slightest, and we have no interest in adding identity verification or paywalls to either this site or Gaming Reinvented. So nothing will change, thankfully.

Here in the States they've made the Kids Online Safety Act, which is in the starting stages of government still I think, but the fact of the matter is that this whole censorship thing starts with porn games, and then it's a slippery slope down to Orwellian shit

Yeah it's never just one thing with this stuff. It always seems to get worse and worse and more draconian, with yet more things banned because of the 'children' and 'safety'.

See also the recent bullshit on Steam and Itch.io:

my take, not a very hot take, but still a take, is that this is more for control, it's all about control, the tiktok ban? the online safety act? all this happens while platforms like youtube and roblox aren't doing all that much to fix their SHITTY MODERATION, age restriction makes it so that you need to be 18+ to see age restricted videos (and engage in the dating that roblox is planning on adding), but do you know how EASY it is to lie about your age? the moderation would be better if it was truly for "protecting the children"

getting hentai games off steam is something i'm all for personally, clearing out some degeneracy from the platform, but the problem is, visa says they don't support ILLEGAL stuff, and if it's legal they don't really gaf, but that stuff was LEGAL supposedly, so truly, i don't get it

I'm still not sure to understand what is the problem exactly. Is it the NSFW/adult content that's causing panic or is it the way they handled it? I know those companies who are banning are being pretty hypocritical about it all and their ban is most defenitely for an other reason than to protect the children. Stil, I'm not opposed to ban NSFW content, yes even for people over 18, but that's just my take I guess. However, I'm under the impression that there's more to it than that, or else I don't really see why people would complainign about it.

Either way, I'm not really sure about it, the situation strikes me as odd.

I would say the issue is the downright privacy invading way they want to go about it. Wanna see porn? Show us your face or full ID. It's just strange as hell. Also, the banning of NSFW content would be horrible purely for the fact it would eventually become a slippery slope towards banning anything the government deems problematic even in the slightest. That stuff where politicians made a big stink about Doom? That wouldn't happen because they can just outright ban it without any problems. Movie is considered too violent like what happened with Evil Dead back when it was released? Ban that shit.

Censorship is horrible no matter how you look at it because eventually it will slide into impeding your right to enjoy things like violent video games or movies.
