The excellent Legends of Localization a neat little article detailling the changes made during Smooth Move's localization (or more precisely, the form card's names), and um, it's neat 'n' stuff. Be sure to give it a read!

It makes me wonder, is WarioWare (and by extension, Rhythm Heaven) Nintendo's more overtly "japanese" series? By contrast, Game Freak has been said to specifically seek to appeal to international audience and the Mario team has been said to have the Treehouse staff look around during development to gum any impenetrable cultural references. Is there any particular reason SPD 1 doesn't seem to give as much of a shit?

Strange, I wonder why some of those were even changed... Like, what's the point in changing the duck to Little Red Riding Hood or whatever?
For some reason they felt the need to change everything that a western audience would not get. So everything from japanese culture or folklore that was too obscure for muricans had to be changed. For example, most people in america don't know what mochi is or how to make it so they just took that toy out entirely.
Which is stupid. They could've just explained it in the description text that every souvenir has.
