According to Mario Wiki anyway. I can definitely see the similarities in the official artwork, but...

Why did Intelligent Systems create a character based off a chocolate company mascot and use it for a fictional video game franchise? Seems a bit random doesn't it?

They didn't. The first WW was entirely developed at Nintendo R&D1 har har har har.

Fun fax: Pyoro isn't the only vidya character inspire by Kyorochan - the Chocobos in Final Fantasy are also based off him.

You have to wonder though; why? Regardless of the company, it seems weird. It's like a US or European company using expies of the Burger King or Ronald McDonald in their video games.

They do look similar, and their names are too, PYoro, KYoro, regardless, they probably just like the cutesy design of the Kyoro.
