Huh, this is pretty interesting. Look at these sprites from Game & Watch Gallery 4:

Don't they look suspiciously similar to the hen and sea gulls from Wario Land 2? And that Wario statue looks pretty badass as well...

Makes it all the more depressing when the statue gets reduced to rubble (i.e. you fail to defend it and watch it get blown up).

Yeah, I love it when they bother to reference the Wario series in other games. Now I just wish they'd do so a bit more often...
