In case this project goes nowhere, which I hope it doesn't fall into the fate of this before mentioned status, then it could be interpreted as a series of fanfiction concepts with Sprite Art attached to it in order to illustrate. But its pretty much a personal concept I've had in mind for years...
Before we start, this is a project I've been thinking about ever since the cancellation of 2 bigger games, Mushroom Kingdom Fusion and Super Mario Fusion Revival, both games had as World 2 a world similar to ours, in a state of war, with various franchises, to avoid having the same fate of too much ideas gone crazy, I've limited this project to only feature and have its story developed around the World 2 concept these previous games had, also, who wouldn't want to see Wario smash a tank?
Anyways... Lets get started with...
Think of the game's intro menu starting like this:
"Wario: WELCOME TO WARIO WORLD!
Secondary Announcer in Epic Voice: X!"
So since I've joined, I've been teasing this project, one major change is the usage of sprites, if you notice, on the initial topic I made showing off these concepts, I had included Wario from Master of Disguise, but opted not to use it, after a poll I made with some test previewers, they came to the conclusion of preferring more the colorized Wario Land 3 Sprite from WwwWario's Super Wario Land project, I searched up the spritesheet and recolored it (with Wario Land 4 pallete and black outlining rather than the SMAS color pallete and it's grey outlining), of course credit will be given to Tomato (for making the colored version) and Tyrogue Yoshi (for expanding the sprite sheet into more powerups).
Also apparently the sprite is accurate to Wario's height in comparison to, well, a normal human being.
So what's the story?
I'm still scripting the initial part of the story, aka why Wario leaves his dimension.
It can be summed up that Wario got kicked out for his past crimes and well, overall, his greedy attitude, this happens after a long day of Wario's treasure hunting in the nearest caverns to his castle.
So after he pretty much became a fugitive to the authorities of the Mushroom Kingdom alongside the surrounding and neighboring kingdoms, he ventures into the forest of illusions (with his items and essential items stored in his inventory), in dinosaur land, but unknown to him and most, this area is of high interdimensional energy.
Eventually he finds a hideout in the caverns of the forest, but gets lost easily, thinking there is more treasure to be found in this place, after feeling a change in atmosfear, he finds himself fighting mutated creatures such as crabs and carnivorous plants, as he exits he finds himself in a War Zone, in what was before a national park.
This is where he meets his first set of enemies and allies, respectively; The Rebel Army, led by General Donald Morden, an army of, as the name implies, rebels against World, who want to establish a new world order. And The Regular Army, the do-gooders of this world who's main mission is to stop Morden's plan, once Wario enters into the picture, they recruit him, he only joins because of the payment the soldiers get, this sets Wario's main goal throughout the game, not only receive as much payment from the military missions, but explore this new world and its new set of treasures found in all the continents with support from his Regular Army allies.
This could pretty much sum up the game's first 2 Chapters, chapter 1 being the first set of levels and Wario's banishment from his homeworld (which may or may not include a raid to his castle which the player must help Wario escape from), and Chapter 2, his arrival to this Alternate Earth (which the poster I made featured in this topic is representative of).
Those who know about the Metal Slug franchise may already know what these crossover characters are and such, and Wario's main allies throughout his military missions are the main characters of these before mentioned games.
The gameplay mechanics are mixed from various Wario Land Games (mostly from 1,2 and 3), The Map exploration is that of the original Wario Land, the level exploration is a combination of all 3 games, and the power up system is present alongside the transformation system, but there is no small Wario (that would make the game a tad bit harder and tedious), lets just say you're in Bull Wario form, but an enemy that is snow based you turns you into Snowball Wario and after the temporal transformation you're back to Normal Wario.
Concerning the Power Ups and Transformations, they aren't forced that much nor are they needed much, that way the player can play through the level, with out worrying of needed special items and such, both are more of a call back to classic Wario Land games, and are used in context, Bull Wario is mostly used in levels of high action, but can be completed using Normal Wario (doing this adds more challenge to completing the level), and only serves to make the level slightly easier and to access secret routes (this applies to most power ups actually). To sum it up, for the casual players who don't care about 100% completion, the usage of Powerups and transformations isn't necessary, but if you are a completionist, well you might want to use them in order to access more secrets to help extend the play time, etc.
Speaking of which, here's a list of powerups and transformations Wario will have in this game.
Powerups:
-Bull Wario
-Jet Wario
-Dragon Wario
Transformations:
-Snowball (stunned version could be frozen statue)
-Flaming
-Floating.
Some of the transformations are limited by time alternatives to the power ups, and in cases are more convenient.
Concerning the franchises that Wario will crossover with, at the moment its only 2 (with some others being mixed in as one shots or small cameos) and are being used in its original context, to avoid a mess story wise, those are: Metal Slug (and an inclusion of the other SNK property, King of Fighters, but these characters are more like sub bosses that are hidden in some levels) and Castlevania.
Right now that's all, any suggestions? Any opinions? Concerning sprite progress, well I have that covered, I've ripped most of the stuff I need already, and probably in 1 month or so a demo will be ready...
