Wario's Height

Does anyone else here miss when Wario used to be taller than Mario? It was especially apparent in the early titles.

Spoiler: Examples

My theory is that Nintendo gave Wario a size downgrade because he stopped a being boss character, and usually those types are bigger/bolder than Mario's sprite. Take Bowser for instance.

If this is correct, he is still taller than Mario. But to be honest, I have my doubts about this chart. The Goombas, Shy Guys, and Wigglers look a bit oversized, and is Waluigi really taller than Donkey Kong?

In some games like Smash 4 and Mario Party, Wario is as tall as mario or even shorter, but in other games like some of the tennis/golf games he's clearly taller.
